    G&L SB1 Pickup Concern

I just wired some SB1 pickups straight to the output jack. I'm wondering what will happen if the green/white (they get soldered together, as shown in official G&L diagram) wire ends touch something?

    Show me your worthless bass

This is pretty similar to my beater (same pups, rosewood fretboard). Unfortunately, mine doesn't look anywhere near this cool (side note: DRI is awesome). I'm working with an old bacco' burst peavey milestone. Truss rod is damn near stripped so I might have to shim it. Hardware is original, and...

    What Did I Just Buy?

The written description didn't match the photos. The listed GC location confirmed the photos were correct, and therefore it's a short scale. The GC employee also said their new AI just throws in random stuff, which is often incorrect. Anyways, I might have struck gold with this one... cuz...

    What Did I Just Buy?

Hey it was a hot deal on a good looking bass... Plus it was a GC order so the return policy is great, especially when the written description doesn't match the pics... I forgot to mention that in my OP lol! Shorties are alright, but sometimes it's hard to find a good case for them. Btw I did...

    What Did I Just Buy?

I've been looking for a nice Sterling that I can use with my other Sterling that's currently strung BEAD. Yeah I know I could just play a fiver, but I prefer the looks of a four banger. I'm a snob and I'll own up to that. So I just came across this Sterling bass that has the beefy upgraded...

Go to this thread and message the guy for his old SB-1 pick ups: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/nbd-all-ja—-and-no-—zz.1669551/ Hopefully you two can work a deal out, and if you do, then you'll thank me later.

Jaco Bass In The Punk Rock Museum

Here's a wild story from Harley Flanagan's (of the Cro-Mags) instagram: "One of my instruments @officialibanezguitars Musician. This one is in the @thepunkrockmuseum it was played on AoQ and use to belong to the bass legend Jaco Pastorious he traded it for an eight **** of **** from a local...

Poll: Are you bringing the L-1000 or Precision to this gig?

Most those bands use p basses. Big kudos for covering the real mckenzies... their current bass player was sporting a p bass the last time I saw them. For some reason the bag pipe player was snapping the count time in his face, but I thought he was already playing pretty good. I obviously voted p...

    Best Strings For Low Action

First off, I do not care about tone. I just want a really low string height with no buzz. I play hard with fingers and pick. I know a good set up is important, but I also know some strings can go lower than others. So what strings are best for low action?

    Bass Weight Obsession.

Personally, I like a heavy bass as long as it's not neck heavy. I'm sure the pros all have a different opinion, or no opinion at all in regard to weight. However, I know Jay Bentley from Bad Religion got his hollow body from his bandmate, Brian Baker, because he kept saying his shoulder hurt...

    The Bass Guessing Game...

Yeah I just googled that, and you're totally right! It had a really good tone, which surprised me because I thought a shortie with those pups would sound really muddy.

    The Bass Guessing Game...

I saw this band about a year ago when they opened for Bad Religion. They're called Speed of Light and they're frikin' great. What kind of bass is this?

Boiled my strings – what a difference!

I've never heard this until now, but I don't doubt it. Do you think cleaning strings with rubbing alcohol will also increase the potential of fret wear?

E-string advice for Hipshot Xtender dropping to C#

I use Steve Harris signature Rotosound strings on my C# bass. It sounds killer and it's really fun to play. The strings are heavy gauge (110-55 I think), so you might have to file the nut. I recommend you try them out though.

Great vintage-style Pbass pickup that shines with pick/rounds?

I'd consider the g&l sb-1 pup. It's got punch and thickness when you roll that tone back. It's a beast on full blast, and looks cool. I miss mine and will prolly get another someday.

Going from EADG to BEAD (and back)

BEAD is a lot of fun, and I think you should go for it! I don't miss the g string at all when I play my BEAD bass, but the tone is way different than my other basses due to the drop down strings (DR brand) I use on the BEAD. It's actually not too pricey to file the nut yourself btw, but you...

    NBD - Poor Man's Pino

I PLAYED THAT EXACT BASS AND ALMOST BOUGHT IT! Good score my Nor-Cal brother! I ended up ordering a pink ray 4, because I want to see what this jabon body wood is all about. If I needed another p bass that one would of went home with me for sure! Glad you got it though, hit my inbox if you want...

How much tension does it take to warp a bass neck

I have a parts fender bass with a player series MIM neck tuned up to F and its strung with DR Legend strings. I think it's holding up ok. The neck needed a lot of truss adjustment to make it near playable at regular tuning. Guess that's why the schmucks sold me the neck to begin with.

    Affordable bass for BEAD?

You might want a little smaller neck than you're used to because the strings can be a lot bigger for BEAD, and you may have to deal with slightly higher action than a bass with regular tuning. I have a sterling ray24 that's set up in BEAD, and it's frikin awesome. The ray24s are usually straight...

Do Flats Sag/Lower After They Break In?

??? EDIT Lol my brain just kicked in, oh wow.

Do Flats Sag/Lower After They Break In?

I had 45-100 stainless rounds on it with regular EADG tuning. It's still probably the neck that moved though, because several people have debunked my sagging/lowering flats theory.

Do Flats Sag/Lower After They Break In?

I didn't check, but it sounds like the neck moved. Thanks everybody.

Do Flats Sag/Lower After They Break In?

I remember pushing down fairly good at the bridge, but my saddles don't go back far enough to get proper intonation on all the strings. Intonation doesn't usually affect action though does it?

    Sansamp + amp user question

I've ran various sansamps into a couple different amps. It sounds like you EQs might be "fighting" each other. My main amp is a rumble 800 head, and I have to use my own rumble flat setting (contour button engaged, mids fully pumped, treb and bass nobs fully cut) to get the results I'm looking...

Do Flats Sag/Lower After They Break In?

I got a bass tuned down to C# with some Steve Harris Sig. Rotos, and this is my first time using flats. The bass was playing pretty good after some saddle adjustments. Now it's about two months later and I'm getting some fret buzz towards the headstock on the middle strings. I thought I read...

    Fender Rumble Club

Hey guys, I'm just popping in to share the best settings I've found for using pedals. I have a rumble 800 hd, which apparently has a slightly different natural EQ than other rumbles. Fender Rumble Club

Quick question: If I run two rumble 115 cabs through one side of my 800 HD (one with speakon from amp, the other parallel from first cab) will that be 800 watts total, or 400?

Do Intonation Adjustments Change The Action?

Do Intonation Adjustments Change The Action?

The strings are DR Fat Beams 45-100 in regular EADG tuning. I see no bends in the strings, which I have seen in the past when I've tried to install used strings. I'm pretty sure the strings are seated well on the saddle and nut, so I should be in good shape. Thank you for your help though! I...

Do Intonation Adjustments Change The Action?

I just did a quick intonation adjustment at the bridge (I "lengthened" the string), and I think my string height may have increased. Am I crazy? Or can intonation adjustments change your action?

So I Guess I Like Tweeters

I appreciate the advice guys. Funny thing is I can apparently make my drummer's ears hurt with just one of them; he only complained about that once though. I think I was pushing it a little too hard that time, whoops!

So I Guess I Like Tweeters

I don't crank the volume when I'm tone chasing actually. I do push them hard when playing in a band setting though. I have not used the two cabs together in a "regular" way yet, but I have split my signal with an ABY pedal for two totally different sounds. Is there something I should look out...

So I Guess I Like Tweeters

So I've been using these 2x10 Fender Rumble cabs for some time now, and they seemed prone to clicking, clacking, and popping in the worse ways. Then I switched the tweeter on and viola! The nasty midrange frying pan noise from aggressive playing seemed to disappear. The overdrive breakup seems...
