What song are you listening to right this moment?

Polkadot Stingray has been posting videos of each band member playing their part on their latest song. Here's the one with the bassist (with drummer dancing in the background).

    Sonny Rollins: R.I.P.

I've been through the ringer this week (took parent to ER who had surgery today), got home a couple hours ago, and saw this. Bummer. My main instrument in college and my gigging days was sax, and Rollins was one of my main influences. I especially listened to how he took a phrase and built on...

    Whatcha watching?

No mention of Conan that I heard, but as far as I know Letterman started that, so it was quite nostalgic for those old enough (like me) to remember those shows.

    What’s stuck in your head?

I took my parents to a doctor's appointment this morning and stopped at the local discount grocery store to pick them up a few things. The PA system was playing the standard cheesy country and old pop, but then, a song began playing that I like. One I own a copy of in physical media and is...

What Squier bass did I just buy?

If the listing has the serial number, or one of the photos shows it (or when it's received), you can look up what it is here: Serial Number Lookup . I also suspect a Vintage Modified or Classic Vibe, maybe modified or with different parts.

    Ever have an ocular migraine?

I went through a period of having them fairly regularly. Although in my case I'd see a bright flash of light, followed by colors, then I'd lose sight in one eye for about 15 minutes. The first time it happened I was pretty freaked out, but then I got used to it. If I saw the flash when driving...

What movie quotes are part of your everyday vernacular?

“Everyone try laughing, then whatever scares you will go away” (My Neighbor Totoro). "[Ohio] Nazis. I hate [Ohio] Nazis." (Adapted from the Blues Brothers.) Whatcha watching?

Yes, I remember the original Japanese Godzilla being a metaphor for the atomic bomb, so it was interesting to see it come back to that, along with everything else. And I saw a few things I interpreted as more current metaphors, but getting into that may devolve. But I'm glad I watched it as...

    Whatcha watching?

I borrowed Godzilla Minus One from the library, and a moving Godzilla movie dealing with life in post-war Japan, the dawn of the nuclear age, and survivor guilt? I wasn't expecting that.

I'm not much for pop, but Polkadot Stingray is solid, and this song has a bit of jazzy groove.

    Whatcha watching?

I borrowed Your Name from the library yesterday, and it's astonishing. I've been watching more Japanese-language media lately as I'm learning the language and haven't seen much anime before. I saw this on lists but thought the body-swapping premise was quite overdone, but this became something...

It's a site for individual sellers to post ads on it, kind of like ebay, Etsy, and similar, so it's best to look at the individual seller, their feedback, if it's a store, if the listing looks right, etc. The site has been going through a lot of changes and such lately, but in general it's...

    Finally got an MIJ Fender

Dig it! I've been looking at them as well as Fujigens and others. I've not played an MiJ/CiJ bass, but I have a Fender Japan 62RI Telecaster I bought from Ishibashi back when they would export new ones. It's one of the three electrics I kept during a pare-down a few years ago. The only issue...

I bought a DVD set of the anime Azumanga Daioh, as it was recommended for people learning Japanese. It's also quite funny and engaging and has unexpected moments. Earlier tonight, I saw the episode with this scene where a character asks about Americans wearing shoes inside homes.

Who wants to talk vintage film cameras!

I have a Pentax K1000 with a 50mm lens. Used it a bit. I also have a Canon Rebel XS, my first SLR, and an Elan IIe. And a few EF lenses, 28mm, 50mm, 35-70mm, and 70-210mm. I haven't used them in a while. Last time I broke them out I remember one of them using a difficult to find battery. I...

    All things Canadian for Basses?

Congratulations! I don't think I have any Canadian-made musical instruments, but have played a couple Seagull and Larrivee acoustics I quite liked. But my home stereo is powered by a Canadian-made Bryston 2B-LP amp! And I have a pair of early, Canadian-made PSB Alpha speakers connected to my...

I want to stylize my bass

Get a strap with a unique design, change the pickguard and write a slogan on it (the pickguard). Preferably one that doesn't make much sense but may make people ponder. Like, off the top of my head, "This Machine Makes Baked Alaska" (or maybe "This Machine Bakes Alaska"), "Disarm the...
