Who is the "most watchable" drummer?

in direct "competition" Chick Webb and his band beat Gene and his band (Bennie Goodman) 11 May 1937 Savoy Ballroom, according to people who were there (and Goodman himself).

my answer to the question is Elvin Jones. I attended a seminar with him at Berklee, felt like I was walking on the ceiling after that from the energy.
Yeah, I thought about Webb, and all the stuff he did in spite of his physical problems, but I don’t think there’s any actual footage to go by, is there? However, there’s this(one of many)of Gene, and one of my favorite tunes…

Those guys set the pace.

And, not to forget(but it’s a short clip)…

#1 is Shannon Larkin - he doesn't play the drums, he dominates them, and he's clearly having a lot of fun doing it. This kind of intensity is what rock should be.

Danny Carey - technical expertise. His ability to jump from subtle to insane and back again is excellent. He has an efficiency of movement, always a purpose.

Nick Menza and Glen Sobel - always gets the job done, with some bonus attitude and flash. If I hadn't switched from drums to bass I'd have been chasing these guy's performance styles.

Pau Villarreal - great to see the next generation stepping up. She's got technique, attitude and energy. Vocals as well.

Carter Beuford - not my style of show, but I've gone to see them 3 times just to watch him play. Technical master, but the sheer joy he usually exhibits while playing is magic.

The man radiates boundless joy when he plays:

(musical magic @ 13:42...)

Yeah man.... I got to see him twice in a short period back in 2002 or so - with the late Wayne Shorter's new (at the time) quartet with Blade/Patitucci/Perez, and then a month or so later with the Directions In Music project that Herbie Hancock put together for Trane and Miles' birthday milestones. Blade/Patitucci/Hancock with Michael Brecker and Roy Hargrove (RIP to both). I count myself very lucky I got to have seen those shows for so many reasons, and it was my first exposure to Blade's playing in person. He absolutely leapt out of his throne with enthusiasm and energy. I'd never seen anything like it before as a young, budding jazzer. You can hear and feel it on both live recordings of those groups.

Oh, man, I saw John Scofield a few years back and he had Josh Dion on drums who was super fun to watch. It was joy.
That being said Kenny Wolleson is fun. So cool and contained.
And speaking of cool and contained anytime I see Steve Gadd. Wow. He oozes groove and pocket. The best.
Vinnie Colaiuta.

Tough Choice..

Thomas Lang:

AMAZING. At times it sounds like he has 4 Feet, each with their own Minds..

And of course, Carter Beauford.
I can't even choose a vid to rep the 'best of'. If ya know, ya know.
*Note: I wasn't really a DMB guy, my wife got me into it, and then I started paying attention to the Drumming.

🤔
I'm sure there's several not coming to mind right now..

Love Thomas😍🥰

Brian Blade
I've probably watched this performance a hundred times. The quality is pretty terrible but the camera stays on Brian the whole time. It's just crazy how much dynamic control he's got and how much fun he's having.

And maybe I missed it but I didn't see anyone mention Bernard Purdie. Here's another one of my all time favorite youtubes.
