I'm curious... how many TBers have a #1 bass? Or are you like me and you have a variety of basses that are each #1 for their specified application?

My #1 is my Ric 4003 at campus.
At home, I usually play my Thunderbird. It plays like butter compared to the Ric, but sound wise the Ric's got a slight edge.

While each of my basses serves a specific function in my mind, I still refer to my Elrick NJS as my #1 because we get along so well. It’s the most playable bass I’ve ever had in my hands.

What makes a #1? Is it the bass you use most, the one you love the most, or the one you prefer playing? In any case, I fall in love with each and every one of my basses each time I play them, so I don’t have a clear #1. The bass I use most might be my rehearsal bass, a Fender Special Edition Noir P-bass, which I keep in a gig bag at work.

The black three-pickup Warmoth jazz currently in my avatar has been my #1 for almost 8 years. Right now it's at Mike (RIP) Lull's Guitar Works, where it's been for a couple of months because I live on the other side of the state. It will accompany me to Memphis for the International Blues Challenge in May, after which it will be more or less retired as my #1.

My Maruszczyk Frog effectively became my #1 as soon as I got it. It will continue to be my #1 until summer, at which time I should be taking delivery of my Adamovic Soul and a Rickenbacker-inspired Lynn Ellsworth. What happens at that point is anyone's guess.
