Gotta admit that

no one ever did and never will btw,,,
Got a pair of ears and two hands on the bass. Should be sufficient.
You strike me as someone who strives for some absolute ultimate something. Well that dont exist, you better trust yourself and the rig you found closest to your needs and tonal taste and just make it work baby.
The point that I am trying to guide you to is this.
Your process is a scientific one. Hate to break that to you. You do an experiment, and listen for the results. You continue to swap out components until you find something you like.
Science!
What the "science crowd" is doing is taking that guess work out of the equation. You know you like some piece of gear? Why? Once you have some specifications that are measurable, and meaningful, you can communicate that to someone else in a meaningful manner. You can also use that to guide you to a future gear choice, even if you have not played it in every venue you have or may play.
Doing things by experience or science is the same route. The science just lets you communicate that in a way that is meaningful to someone else.
yes- there is that too... not sure how scientific it all is btw, can be hype... however there you have it. a mix is not new to anyone, especially if you like that mix. who cares? i need more mids- boom 210's. i need more sub - boom 118. mix em up and make music i can cry and dance to. Bypass the thought process and go with the spirit- it should get you to destination faster.
This right here is a perfect example. Not ever 210 sounds the same. Not every 118 sounds the same. There are 210's that go lower than most 118's. There are 118's that dont have a lot of lows. Which one should you pick?
The lack of thought process, and how to communicate your findings, doesnt help anyone else. It may not even be helping you.
I dont strive for "perfection". I have different gear that I use in different settings, for different purposes. That gear has been chosen based on specifics, that are measurable by science though. It also means that my statements, and feelings, about that gear can be translated to someone else. And help them to make a decision.
