12 Things Bassists Hate

1. Amen.
2. Amen.
3. Amen.
4. Not so much. For anyone who knows me or watches me play, laid back and boring are never the descriptive words used.
5. Amen.
6. Amen.
7. Nope. I'm fortunate. I play with some good dudes.
8. Definitely not. My guitarist always knows.
9. Amen.
10. Amen.
11. Amen.
12. Nope. My drummer is crazy. He's tight, and at the same time, he's everywhere. And that's just the way I like it. Keeps me on my toes.

However, that's just my present situation. I've certainly had my share of the prima donna's who want to be louder than anyone else and have no clue what key they're in and drummers who have no business ever leaving the pocket.

It's funny actually, on amp size, I have the smaller rig out of both my guitarists...

But with a 410 Mesa Cab that produces the most excellent sound you could ever get, and soon to be a 115 cab for those lows... there's really no need for a 412 bass cab.

There are really only two things I hate right now, to be honest...

1.) The people on my friend's list who post "Slappin' da bass!" and "It's all about that bass!" on every single thing I post on Facebook that's bass related, as if they're totally original and I've never heard it before.

2.) The fact that I'm too nice to tell them to KNOCK THAT S**T OFF ALREADY!!!

:D

Meh, none of this bugs me. I guess I have a pretty advanced case of not giving a rat's 455 about small stuff. But for laughs, sure, I can laugh at this.

"Kevin"'s comments made me laugh harder than the original:

Alright... as a bassist, this is the dumbest thing I've ever read. Let's dive in, shall we?

"Bass Strings are Ridiculously Expensive"
- $20 is nothing for anyone over 15 years old
"No one but other musicians appreciate the importance of the Bass"
- Other musicians opinions are all that really matter
"That D**n Meme"
- The dog one is much better (see below)
"Everyone assumes you’re laid back and boring"
- Learn some God d**n stage presence
"Bass amps are inevitably way heavier than guitar amps"
- Get casters
"Guitarists, the more around the worse it is"
- Don't play with shi**y people
"Guitarists not having a clue about what key they are in"
- Don't play with shi**y musicians
"Everyone assumes it’s easy to play"
- It's pretty f***in easy to play
"Bloody fingertips"
- Man up
"Part Time Soundtechs"
- Quit your bi**ching
"And Lastly The DAMN DRUMMER!"
- Keep the f*** up

Well duh. We hate everything. It's not a part of being a bassist, it's a part of us all being jaded misanthropes (to be fair, being a bassist in a bunch of awful bands will do that to you).

This is a crybaby article as far as I am concerned.

Bass Strings are Ridiculously Expensive
- They last longer so it comes out in the wash.

Everyone assumes you’re laid back and boring - Laid back and boring are two different things. Who cares about assumptions anyway?

Bass amps are inevitably way heavier than guitar amps - My 700rb-II weighs much less than my last guitar players Orange AD-50, and his 410 is as heavy if not heavier than one of my 410s.

Lugging around heavy amps is the bane of every bassist’s life. And the drummer has the cheek to moan about hauling his gear, we get it you have to go back and forth a lot, but it weighs nothing….
- This is absolutely ridiculous. Drummers have it way worse than bass players, not only is setting up and tearing down a kit a total PITA, a hardware case usually weighs more than a bass cab and head combined.

Guitarists not having a clue about what key they are in - Bad musicianship is not only a problem with guitar players, bass players can be just as bad, drummers can lack time, singers can be off key as well.

Everyone assumes it’s easy to play - On a basic level, it is. Again, Who cares?

Bloody fingertips - Learn to set up your bass, this should never happen. I've played for countless hours at a time and have never had a finger bleed.

And Lastly The DAMN DRUMMER! - Get a better drummer.

Regarding the bloody finger thing, if you're playing that hard, you're doing it wrong. There is a "terminal velocity" and any harder than that is completely pointless. Learning restraint in your playing is beneficial in all aspects, including comfort AND sound.
i totally agree until you include playing upright bass. six hours a night six nights a week. that anecdote about flea and super glue isnt so "insane" really. my fingers used to look like half peeled metal bananas. but that wasnt as bad as the tendonitis...

"That's a nice Washburn" (looking at my Warwick.) "That's cool - playing a German guitar with a German Amp!" (Gallien-Krueger) "Woooooo - your strings are huuuge dude!" "You can't be very loud - don't even have a cab to play through." (Just wait my young friend and learn what a 10,000 watt PA w/subs can do!!!) "Your guitar isn't painted and doesn't have flashing lights. Can't play metal I bet!" "You guys gonna play some metal? I love metal! Metal is where it's at dude! Whama whama whama . . . . (while playing air guitar)" "What kind of guitar is THAT!?? You're missing some strings" "I used to play guitar and bass AND banjo. Can I play your guitar?" (Nope) "You guys gonna play a mush pit? I love it when you play mush pit. Mush pit is cool!" (Oh really? I'll pay attention next time)
