Stand Corrected! I was always told and believed it!Does it have more displacement?![]()
Anybody else confused about the title and actual post?
Well it MIGHT but it might not. Just wanted to remind folks that xmax matters as much as area. One is nothing without the other.Stand Corrected! I was always told and believed it!
100% correct that a generic 15 has greater surface area than two generic 10s210 = approx 700cm2
115 = approx 800cm2
So that's a no.
In general most 15's have a larger xmax then 10's so displacement of a 15 is higher(in general)
That's always the real question, yes.Does it have more displacement?![]()
It matters more. There's no re-placement for dis-placementWell it MIGHT but it might not. Just wanted to remind folks that xmax matters as much as area. One is nothing without the other.
That's the thing. It all depends on the specific drivers. And, of course, the cab design & execution.It all depends on what speakers they are and what you play.
I'd say 12s are slightly more punchy than 15s but with a 15 the definition is generally much greater and more refined sounding on the low end and also (from my experience), has crisp high ends that just cant be found in a 12 OR 10 imho
I recently swapped a marshall vbc4x12 cab for a marshall 2x15 and im stunned at how different and generally clearer and balanced my amp sounds compared to my previous cab.
Same with combos,, go for a 15, you won't regret it!

I would say 15's are bigger then 12's
Give the OP a break. Bbela states he is 71 in his profile, and has only been here since Sunday and has made exactly 2 posts.
The age of the OP has what to do with trying to get clarity of his question. I know many folks over 70 that most likely are sharper than 75% of posters here.
You wouldn't believe how tight and punchy a new GK neo 15 is. And bright. Whole new ballgame.I've had both over the years - 12s and 15s - and I vast prefer 12"s.
Of course, I've never played a "modern" 15" system so I might be missing something... but my first REAL amp was a 4x12" Sunn cab that sounded GREAT - even for 1980! For years I ran 10"s exclusively but have done the unthinkable and moved to a mixed rig of a Berg CN112 + CN210 - which sounds unreal (to me, at least!). The 2x10 provides the rumble & the sparkle, the 1x12 provides the low mids that make it sit in the mix.
The only 15"s I've had were an old Acoustic combo and a Boogie 1x15" cab - neither were very good. Muddy, dull, lifeless.
