18 inch cab

I have Bagend 1x18's. It depends on the driver in it. If it is a fast driver it will work well. If it is a slow driver you'd need some 2x12's or 2x10's to go with it. With a 2x12 cab & the 1x18 will be the fattest sound you have ever heard. I have those cabs too and its really sick.

& remember The Fender PS400 came with 1x18 cabs. Acoustic Controll allso sold 1x18 cabs. And they were used by some serious musicians...(Jaco Pastorius) & it's allmost impossible to blow a 1x18... As it usually rates at 400 watts RMS or more. And they can take peaks of 1000 watts or more.

I dont know if 18's are practical for todays bass amps. in the 70's alot of bassist liked that arena shaking sound, deep and loose. Amps are better today i know the accoustic 360 was a monster in its day but now a simple 4-10+ 1-15 rig is all anyone would ever need.

Hmm not sure were will33 is going with that
Probably so that you'd read one of the threads explaining that driver size alone has no bearing on tone or output. You can play through a dozen eighteens and get a dozen results. You can find eighteens that go higher than some twelves, you can find tens that go lower than some eighteens. Ask your girlfriend if size matters. The same answer applies to drivers.

Hmm not sure were will33 is going with that when the ? was is anyone using 18s

Where will33 is going is to give you the opportunity to discover that speaker diameter matters not one whit to the tone or the output you will produce. There are many factors related to speaker and cabinet that do contribute, but this isn't one of them.

The question should be, if you hope to receive a meaningful response, something like: "has anyone played cabinet X with an 18" driver, and how did it sound?"
:)

Edit: BFM beat me to it -- read what he says!

Well now we can add billfitzmaurice to the list of people who missed the ?Anyone useing 18s not asking for tech break down of speaker specs!I guess the secondary ? was what do you guys think about a single 18 but i am sure you can see that was aimed at the ones using 18s!

Poor dispersion, heavy, not necessarily as loud as a good 1x15 or even 1x12, depending on box design. I have tried (and often liked) everything from a 4x6 to a 1x15 for bass, but I have never played a 1x18 cab I have liked the sound of.

18s don't necessarily "bring the lows" any more than the nameplate on the cab affects the tone. Also, there is no such thing as a "fast" or a "slow" driver.

growlerbox wins again for not reading.I made mention above that there could have been a second ? in there but pointed out that it was clearly intended for people using 18s.As for not a lot of response if every one was using them there would be no need for the ? so since i know some still do i a looking for them!

no matter when someone starts saying "I love big speakers anyone else use big speakers?" a bunch of the same guys show up saying something like "you're all wrong" so don't worry about it too much.

yes lots of guys use 18's and lots of different manufacturers have produced 118 cabs. there are many guys in the Big Cabs Club with 18" cabs. off hand, comparing the 18's I use to the 15's I use, the 15" BWs are better by themselves for sure. The 18" BWs I always use with the 2 10"s in the same cab, they seem a lot darker but definitely more deep. so with the 10"s they sound great, although my 10"ers are totally different than bass 10"ers. they are scorpion 10"ers which are more or less guitar speakers and true midrange drivers which I run biamped to crossover. I am sure that a better designed 118" cab with a great driver would put mine to shame, as long as you're not a whimp and can't be bothered with a real man's bass cab/and or your woman loves ground-shaking room-taking bass ;)

hrgiger so you run peavey 18s?I know they still do pa 18s do they still make a bass cab with a 18.And i know i said i didnt want a 10 but in the same cab would be awsome! What kind of wattage are you pushing? Thanks for any help you can give!

If you wish to be understood, you might like to try being comprehensible. I did my level best to read the original question, and quoted it to be sure I wasn't missing anything. If I have, my sincerest apologies, and please feel free to ignore the response if it is inconsonant with your fantasy.

Have a day :hmm:
