1962 Fender Jazz. Fact or Fiction?

Thats true...But I guess for vintage instruments, IF some guy is willing to pay 20k for it, then the bass is worth 20k. It's only worth how much someone is willing to pay for it.
You can fly first class round trip to the US, buy one in similar condition and end up with at least $7,000 in your pocket.

I don't know the bass market in your country? if it was here in the states I would pass on it but if they are a rare find in Singapore and I didn't trust having a vintage instrument shipped I would definitely consider buying it.

It's all restricted/rarified air to me, but a same year example cheaper by 1/2 is not same same. It's $12K cheaper!
Haha the market for vintage instruments in my country is so small, it's non existent. I could easily ship instruments over from the U.S actually. But I'm not looking to buy this though
not into vintage stuff. This post just kinda interest me. Like who would pay 20k for an old p bass...
20K? Not in sunburst anyway...but the right custom color raises the price significantly and of course the better the condition, etc.
Well, they didn't start on January 1, 1962 with the VVT. There are "many" 62's that had the VT VT
and by many I mean some...
and by some I mean it's possible...

The pics don't seem off to me, except for the serial number, which is what caught my eye... I SWEAR I've seen that number on a neck plate before... which is why I used my google-fu. I'm not trying to out the seller or anything like that- so please let's not get the TB Pitchfork Brigade out for anything, that would just be silly.
It appears that the Seller has been asking about it's value on several vintage guitar stores web presences on social media, as far back as Feb 2012. That lends some credibility to it being real, and really in the possession of this person. If it were a fake, he'd have flipped it before now... because honestly- those pics look really good... SOMEONE would have bought it if he'd have tried.
So now its the archeology of this is intriguing to me... How does a 1962 Jazz bass make it's way to Malaysia to be in the hands of a guy with an "only drove on sunday's to church" story? 62's were highly collectable 20 years ago, so at some point you'd think the hands it passed through knew the value of it to some extent. So even with his starting to seek information on it 2 years ago would mean that an instrument built in southern CA made its way to south east Asia before it was collectable enough so that it could become part of a closet classic story...
I'm not saying anything about the authenticity of it, there's not enough detail to really say... but how that bass got from point A to point Z has to be an interesting story.
The price he's asking is not completely out of the realm of possibility of a pristine custom color '62. So I don't get the vibe that this guy is trying to pull one over or scam anyone- he's just taken the absolute top of the range for a "1962 Fender Jazz" and priced it on the knowledge he has available. So yes, overpriced, but as Tolkien would say... a fake "would look fairer and feel fouler"
