Thanks for the info, it does make sense. In my office with the V6s in ears and no music on, I can't hear people in the hall talking, with the A4, I can hear can hear people talking but once I put the music on a low volume the talking fades away. I noticed the A4's have more of a spacial effect to the sound, almost more of a surround sound effect. I had to adjust the 62, 125 and 250 hz range a little higher and pulled the 31 down with the A4. As for the quality of sound the A4 and V6s sound so close except for the spacial tone in the mids of the A4. During this little test I had to remove one set to try the other, I have a splitter at home so I can put one of each in my ears and see what if any difference I hear between the two. Not sure this will tell me much as my left ear is my dominant ear and more volume level sensitive.
Decibels (dB, sound measurement) are not linear, they're logarithmic, meaning that a 2dB increase or decrease is not a 2x increase or decrease in sound. So the difference in sound reduction from -8dB to -18dB is much greater than a reduction from -18dB to -28dB. If I were to guess, you'll be fine, and you may like the extra ambient noise that bleeds in (less of the IEM bubble effect). The image below illustrates the relationship using speaker power, but the concept can be translated to isloation: You start to see less benefit at extreme ends of the curve (the curve flattens) when compared to the first few dB
