I've made, wait for it, exactly 100 US dollars playing this year. And I'm starting my own business.

Even I question my judgement on this!

Well, not I'm not quite up to Basscliff's level, but I did do 75+ gigs in 2015.
Start again at the end of Jan, so.. and it MIGHT be busier this year!

BC has th trump card, but you guys definitely have a good thing going. I'm ideally aiming for something more along what you guys do. Will see what happens once I finish my last music class this semester.

Yea, me too. (Not that my low gig count stopped me from dropping ~$700 on these IEMs with no regrets!) 75 gigs would be a full time effort for me.

Let's do the math - as it's not as many [bad? good?] as it sounds. We DO have [at least] one weekend a month off..

20 of the 75 came from playing the same venue (Wed-Sat) 5 times. Most venues we play are Fri/Sat, so that counts for 2 gigs a week.
Splitting the other 55 gigs (at 2 a week) between the remaining 47 weeks of the year (or ~27 weekends) - still leaves us 20 weeks (5 months) of the year when we didn't have gigs!! Confused?? LOL


The plus is that the band gets pretty tight playing 8+ hours each week and only needs rehearsals to put together new material.
And, yes, my Qi's got plenty of use..

FYI, in case you weren't aware, the 64 Audio site now has replacement cords with inline mics. They're $49.99, which is really high for a cable, but if you want to use your IEM's with your phone this is a good solution.

I think the price is steep for all their cables considering how much the IEMs cost. The original cables for my M-Audio M10s were much more heavy duty and have lasted 10 years. I was surprised by how cheap the cables look and feel.

To all who have recently received your IEMs, what are your thoughts and opinions so far?

Boo, it doesn't appear my A4's will ship this week unless they can get the buffing and QC finished today. Having these V6s for a couple weeks now, I wish I knew what I didn't know two years ago as I would have definitely invested in a pair of 1964 Ears. I have been listening to Spyro Gyra today and I am hearing nuances I have never heard. I need to listen to Children of the Sun with these IEMs.

To all who have recently received your IEMs, what are your thoughts and opinions so far?

I've grown to really enjoy my A6's. I switched from the Shure 215's, and also tried the Westone dual driver universals(immediately returned them actually), and while I became very accustomed to the bassy sound of the 215's, I love the clarity that my A6's afford me. These truly have a flat response, which as a utility player I need. I have been following the Adel owner's thread in Head-fi, and heard guys mentioning a larger "soundstage"; I finally understand what they're talking about. Listening to some old Weather Report or Paul Young through Tidal premium it really feels like I'm sitting in the middle of the room during a session. Totally blown away by these, now I'm starting to get the itch for the A12.....

Isn't it funny how that happens? After to listening to music through the V6s I have also wondered how good the A12 must sound.

So-o-o.... pertinent question to my 1964 Ears brethren..??

The stock cables are basically cheap.. I did not know how cheap until recently, when a friend - who owns a set V6 Stage - showed me his old backup set of $49 buds with cables that were awesome in strength, weight and feel.
I'm on my 3rd set of stock cables - in 2 yrs ('cus I gig a lot, and travel a fair bit too) - and really need aNOTHER set!

What are you guys using for after-market cables in place of the stock cables?
I'm looking at under $150, 'cus I'm not audiophile and will not pay for snake-oiled cables in the +$300 range!!

My M-Audio iems (bought out by Ultimate Ears).had a heavy cable. I know I can get replacements but not sure if they will fit the 64 Audio. The 64 Audio cable does move more freely, the M-Audio cables were stiffer and slightly shorter. I used to have to attach a couple of adapters for weight so I could feed the jack down the back of my shirt. The replacements in the link below are 48" long.

Read the whole thread before posting here.. some of those cables are HIGHLY expensive...
I'm NOT an audiophile..I just want something that will hold up a little better than what I have during a lot of gigs...

@CrashClint's post above on UE's is interesting.. I believe I read somewhere that UE "old" (pre-2010) 2-pin cables are compatible with 1964 sockets, around the same price ($39?) but are "better" made... I believe their newer buds have the TF10 format, but Westone, and JH (picture below $28 ) also fit.

So run the A3's through some paces today and I'd say they're a great purchase I A/B'd them with some music and then playing my bass through a headphone amp.

Definitely less boomy than th Qi's now that I can compare. I have a Sadowsky metro and the preamp has a lot of punch, so a passive bass may be less impacted here. I felt there was more definition in music and in bass lines with the A3's and I'm curious what the six driver versions are like. Playing in drop-D with the Sadowsky has me reaching for the gain knob and the headphone volume to reduce the boom. I did not have that with the A3's. I played a few songs with pronounced B-string action to hear really low notes, and the A3's seemed a little more precise. One song that stood out was Into the mystic and Good Times, Bad Times. The bass was more precise to my ears with the A3's vs the Qi's.

As for comfort, the molds are the same and they sealed as expected. The A3's felt a bit more open than the Qi's, which feel a little more like cupping your hands over your ears (not sure how else to describe). I know the Adels have a lower dB cut than the V models, so that may explain some of it. I will decide if that is a good thing Tues night at practice when 3 guitarists join the mix...

All in all, if you find the Qi's very bassy (Geri!), then the more balanced 3 or 6 driver model would definitely be a good answer. There is a little bit of the Porsche or Ferrari concept going on here, but right now, I'm thinking 3 drivers for bass is plenty fine. A preference issue like many things and I'll report back after practice.

My A4's are sitting at FedEx, they came in yesterday morning at 7am but won't be ready for me to pickup until after 9am today. The V6s are rated at -28db and the A4's are -18db. I have gotten used to the isolation of the V6s so I hope the A4's isolate good.

Decibels (dB, sound measurement) are not linear, they're logarithmic, meaning that a 2dB increase or decrease is not a 2x increase or decrease in sound. So the difference in sound reduction from -8dB to -18dB is much greater than a reduction from -18dB to -28dB. If I were to guess, you'll be fine, and you may like the extra ambient noise that bleeds in (less of the IEM bubble effect). The image below illustrates the relationship using speaker power, but the concept can be translated to isloation: You start to see less benefit at extreme ends of the curve (the curve flattens) when compared to the first few dB

I have my A4's in hand. I would have thought they would have sent the divided storage insert for the IEMs as the V6s case didn't have one but I believe the Adel's come with the divider. I was a little surprised when I opened the FedEx package to see a cardboard box.
