1964 Ears Owners Group

I'd think some streamlining of slowly becoming outdated equipment to focus on the newer equipment is at the core to go along with margins. I can't fault them given they are doing quite a bit of auditory research with Adel and some of the newer technology. It of course very much changes the cost of IEM entry that was a big selling point for them.

This is surprising to me. There can't be that much of a difference to warrant killing off lower end models. Thanks for the post!

This sounds to me like 1964 is getting greedy... I love their product, but there's simply no justification for these price increases....

Maybe they have had a drop off in orders for the lower models. I do think offering the upgrade is a good thing as it does save you a little money. One other thing, they are located in Washington State which passed the $15hr pay, this could be part of the increase and as a small business owner, pay 100% of the health and dental plan for our 27 employees and this cost goes up every year.

I do NOT go wireless from our church Aviom system. I use a 25' head phone extension cable, loop it around my belt loop and plug my IEM's into it.

I pretty much do the same thing. I do use a wireless transmitter on my bass. I recently used my Phil Jones Bass Buddy as my send and receive DI. I plugged my wireless into instrument in and sent my signal down the built in DI. I took the signal from the Aviom and plugged it in the aux in of the bass buddy which allowed me to eq a little on what I was hearing from my bass and the built in compressor came in handy.

Maybe, but the Qi's are to be discontinued and are NOT upgradeable for the posted price.
That leaves me no choice but to go with full price ADEL's.....

there's always Black Friday 2016...
Yeah, true.. Since I did not see an email on the Valentine's 15% off, I missed it - I've been off work since Friday. That might have been a go, but right now, I'm going to have to wait and get my molds re-done. They said mine are too old to re-use, and I need new ones. :headphone:

Maybe, but more than likely it's the cost of business in WA.

Their mailing list is a bit wonky; I got the Black Friday, but not the discontinuation or the VD sale.

I never get emails from them. Go figure.

They're slowly pricing themselves out of favor with guys like us. They've got a great product, but they've lost a lot in my eyes: customization and affordability

That is kind of where I was headed with the "greedy" comment. I have no issue with the quality or sound my Qi's at all.. but with nothing under $599 (A2's) as of Mar 1, 2016 the move seems self defeating.
But, when you compare the A12's to JH's Layla's starting at $2725, the rest of the product line seems reasonable.

I'm not a pro musician, I'm a weekend warrior with a full time job, kids, house, cell, cable, car and food bills - like most of us. $600 on my Qi's was a chunk of change.. A set of A4's is $889, A8's $1399. It's a tough call on an upgrade at all... this price increase on the V series and discontinued models doesn't help. The discount sales are my only option right now..

The upside to being an owner is that with good care you'll be able to get years out of the ones you have now. In the interim, you can probably squirrel away enough money to make the switch should your current ones bite it.
that's the plan.. and FWIW - I did get the Valentine's sale email - at my work email, at 5:30pm last Friday, after I had left for al ong weekend.
Every time opportunity knocks, I'm out back taking out the garbage! LOL

It sucks that I missed the sale the other day. I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on the Qi's. With the pending price increase on 1964 models, does that bring other competitive brands/models into play -- or does 1964 still represent a top value?

My opinion is that their meteoric rise was due to an awesome product at a reasonable price - when compared to other major vendors.
They are now moving in the direction of the other vendors pricing models, but I'd say their quality is still top value at the moment.

I remember two years ago when was first looking to IEMs, the V6s were about $100+ cheaper and you could color customization had plenty more options available. When I started looking again, the first thing I noticed was the decreased color options and the increased price. I would recommend the Adel model as to me, it is less fatiguing on my ears. I wish I would have had the extra money to get the A6.

If you are on Facebook, you can follow 64 Audio and any sale will appear on your timeline.

Once orders started rolling in they had to hire more people to handle all the orders which would cause an increase as well. The Adel is a licensed technology so the guy who invented it is getting a cut. Eventually I think the V model will be dropped completely as from everything I read 64 Audio only wants to produce a IEM that can offer the best hearing protection and the A4 does that at this time.

I've been looking at IEM for some time now and just joined a group who all use IEM with no live monitors on stage. They all have 1964's. I was doing the Alien Ear vs 1964 dance and was ready to go AE, until I found this owners group thread. AE doesn't have an owners group and anything worth having seems to have an Owners group. You guys sold me.

Molds are done, sent and order placed. All done last night. Ordered the Qi, Clear with translucent Wine covers.

Day 1, Feb 19th 2016... Ordered, shipped molds. The long wait begins!

Good decision!!
AE was one of my "candidates" back when making a choice.. in retrospect, I'm glad I didn't go there.. my drummer went with their triples. Quality was not good and he's send them back TWICE now.. once for refit, and once because the left ear kept cutting out. Their turnaround time was horribly slow and he's spent more time without them than being able to use them.
I have decided to go with the A8's and need to save up for them, then wait for a discounted offering! ;)
Meanwhile, the Qi's will continue to rock!

I previously used AE (triple drivers) and got the 1964 A8 during the Black Friday sale. AEs aren't bad, but not even close to the same league as 1964. And, yes I've too had issues with the left ear cutting out on my AEs.
