Neither is the bass the op is looking for. I scored a 2nd gen for $80 with ohsc not too long ago. Those deals aren't terribly uncommon. Just need a keen eye and watch fb marketplace and CL. Mine were both bought from guitarists that cared nothing of peavey and posted horrible ads.

I’d agree with everyone else that you should hold out. It might take a while, but they do pop up. Keep checking the local classifieds, too. I picked up an 82 T-20 for $120 a few weeks ago off Facebook marketplace. Just gotta be at the right place, right time.

Don’t have much to say about the bass, but that Mark IV amp was a killer.
$575 is too high & at that price it would need to include original HSC in good condition but it’s really up to you. Can you live with the the fact that you paid $575 for something that you already owned in the past? Just my 2cent.... don’t forget to take it for a test drive.... also take cash to work with reaching a price you both can agree with but don’t mention the story that your parents gave you a bass like that one, hey its Xmas time & the seller may need Xmas cash, Good Luck!
After the “hard no” at $400, I’d wait a week, then offer $300. I’m pretty sure it won’t sell at $575, and the seller might eventually get that he’s not getting his asking price.

I had that same amp in the late 80's I believe. I still have that 1×15 BW cab. Old Peavey's never die.....
This thread inspired me to fire up this rig, which isn’t exactly a rare occurrence for me, but I still appreciate being reminded. @divinguy, when you get your second generation Fury for $200, you can spend the $375 you saved on most of a rig just like this to go with it!
Yes, there are no new American Peaveys to look forward too.They are good basses, and rising prices are inevitable.

That type of investment considers future earnings. The op is seeking nostalgia.
The here and now option is to buy a brand new Fender Player series bass for $675, unless of course you’re a collector, or you just want to own someone else’s old POS.

or next month or whenever. i browse a lot of craigslist, reverb, and facebook marketplace and there's a lot of folks absolutely clueless that they're not going to sell their gear for anywhere CLOSE to the asking price (bugera tube amp for more than the usa peavey it's a copy of? not gonna happen). part of me wants to respond that they're crazy but you don't make many friends that way

Old USA Peaveys are fine basses but $525 for a Fury is way out of line, I suspect that the seller will be hanging on to it for a while. While I completely understand the nostalgia angle there is no need to over pay, a second generation Fury isn't exactly rare. Shop around and while you're doing that badger this guy once in a while, Christmas is coming I see a price drop in the future.
Peavey made a lot of Furys. Stay patient, set up a search follow on Reverb and you'll be notified every time a new one is listed. Check Musician's Friend's and Music Go Round's websites regularly. I guarantee that the exact model and color you're looking for will pop up again.
Man. That’s a cool bass but I’m sorry. That person is looking for a dude like you to take advantage of. The bass is quality American made but they made so many fury’s and they aren’t a super sought after instrument. That bass may be worth 575 in 5 years who knows but that is not the current market value. Give it two weeks and I am sure you will find another. That being said. If your cool paying 575 and don’t plan on reselling it anytime soon it’s your money. I buy stupid stuff all the time because it makes me happy. If I was smart I would have bought all the fury’s I saw for 50-150 and t-40s I saw for 150-250 10-15 years ago.
Earlier this year I sold my MIA Pbass and got a 1987 Peavey Fury 2nd gen with rosewood board and black hardware. Couldn't be happier! They are out there and you just have to be patient. There's a really rough looking script logo 2nd gen selling right now on the bay and various other slightly newer ones all for sale in the sub $300 range there and elsewhere online if you look. Earlier this year I paid 250 for mine and though it was in a little rough shape, it cleaned up nice and sounds like the vintage pbass it is!
