(2)8 Speakers=8?

I searched but to no avail...

Is there ANY way of wiring two 8Ω speakers into 8Ω? Like building a 'fake' crossover and send full range to both speakers?

    Thanks!

(PS. Shout out to Bill Fitzmaurice. I have a mound of respect for you that equals a mountain.)

What is a 'fake' crossover? Either it is, or it isn't.

Your options are either to run the speakers in parallel for 4ohms, or series for 16ohms. There is no other shortcut or fake. Otherwise people would have been doing it for the past 60 years or so.

  7. Yes. You need two amps, though.

NO. It cannot be done. It is like making a second drain hole in your bathtub -it lowers the resistance to the water flow) lower impedance). You cannot keep the water flow the same without making the holes smaller (raising the impedance of each hole).

    Sorry, can't be done.

  11. Maybe you can fill in details as to why you think you want to do this. You might get more meaningful answers

.. or an amp capable of bi-amping, or a stereo power amp and running each side into a speaker ...

... you didn't clarify if you have two 8 ohm CABS, or a cab with two 8 ohm SPEAKERS ... I think the later was assumed, and if that is the case, you would need to wire a seperate jack for each speaker to accomodate what I said above

I'm building a 2x15 going off some Sunn 2000s plans. I have a friend that has very generously provided me with some D130s (8ohm) and i really would like the cab to be 8ohms so I could build another when I get time. And some more D130/D140s.

    See above.

  15. D130's are guitar drivers. Check with a good speaker repair shop if 16 ohm K140 cones can be fitted to the D130 baskets.

I'm pretty sure the K140s will work but I don't want to spend $100+ per speaker for a recone when I could pick up two 16ohm 15's for a little more. :/

  17. That's cool, just an option. :)

    Thanks anyways!

I'm thinking about going with some Eminence Delta 15B's. From what I read they are tonally similar and they are kinda cheap which is nice.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

Well, supposedely he COULD get an 8ohm and put it in the lead of each speaker. But good luck on finding an 8ohm resistor, and you'll need even better luck that can dissipate enough power. Of course even if he did do this it would be completely pointless.

I did this back in the 60's. I put a series / parallel switch on the cab for 4 / 16 Ohms so I could parallel two cabs for 8 Ohms. The D130/140 is so efficient you don't need the lower impedance to get good output with today's amps.
