2 Notes Opus

Hello all!
I am a little (a lot) late to the game here. I have been satisfied with my pedal options for some years now and have only begun to look into new options after a friend showed me his Tonex Pedal. I liked the idea of it, so I started looking into the IR thing. Enter Two Notes... I have been with Two Notes since Le Bass, and don't see any reason to change that now. I saw the Revolt and the Opus, and GAS started happening immediately. But before I purchase anything I do a ton of research, as I buy a setup that I plan on using for a long time.

So if you all don't mind I have a few questions about it all (please forgive ignorance... I have watched some videos and done some research, but 1st hand experience trumps either of those, and you have it)

1. How does the Revolt compliment the Opus? I saw some rigs without the Revolt on it. I also (yes, I said it) STILL use the Le Bass pedal, as it has served me well. But I am interested in how the Revolt works with the Opus as compared to the Le Bass. Is it worth it to make the change to the newer generation on this?

2. IR's..... IDKS about them really, and after looking at the setup on the Opus can REALLY appreciate the seeing the mics, room setups, and other options readily. I am a huge fan of Gallien Krueger products, but cannot find any list (other than the advertised list on Two Notes) about the IR plug ins that are associated. Would someone educate an old fool on what options are available in the IR's? I have 3 setups that are musts for me, and I have seen two of them already posted on threads, but not GK. Everything else is just icing after that.

3. @PhatBottomBass1 I have read a few threads on this as well as Le Bass chats and have seen you post on many of them, so it seems like you would be very knowledgeable about either question. Would you mind giving some feedback and/or suggestions about anything I have asked?

Ross from Two notes here - thanks for getting in touch and i'm so pleased to hear you are considering our solutions!

I wont comment on tonal differences - but as a bass player myself (and a previous Le Bass user) I prefer the simplified layout of ReVolt and the channels work considerably better in the context of my playing style / target tones. I especially like Channel 1 on ReVolt and lower-gain settings on Channel 2.

In terms of DynIRs, we dont have any GK DynIRs in the archive yet, however we do have plenty of speakers with Neodymium drivers that you may be interested in. In terms of the DynIRs that are included with OPUS for Bass, these are the following:
  • 2NOTES CSB – Inspired by a Custom® CSB Bass cabinet loaded with Custom® 15″ Custom speakers
  • ALU XL – Inspired by a Hartke® 410XL Bass cabinet loaded with Hartke® 10″ XL Aluminium-Cone Bass Driver speakers
  • DUAL BW15 – Inspired by a Peavey® PV 215D Bass cabinet loaded with Peavey® 15″ Black Widow 1505-8 speakers.
  • FRIDGE 9 – Inspired by an Ampeg® V-9 Bass cabinet loaded with Eminence® 10″ Custom speakers
  • MARCO – Inspired by a Markbass® Traveler 102P Bass cabinet loaded with Markbass® 10″ Custom Neodymium speakers
  • FRIDGE – Inspired by an Ampeg® SVT-810E Bass cabinet loaded with Eminence® 10″ Custom speakers
If you were looking to secure some more DynIRs, we have a custom cab pack offer you may be interested in as well as regular sales offering you more bang for your buck! When you purchase a cab, this is essentially added to your license and can then be transferred to OPUS via the Desktop variant of Torpedo Remote.

If you need any other info or have any technical questions, I am here to help!

Hi Michael,

First, no experience with Le Bass.

Revolt Bass Tube Preamp - nice piece of kit. I put a NOS 60's Amprex (Mullard) 12AU7 tube in that tamed #3 Channel. The tube is not just for show! The assigned effects loop mix function is nice on #3 too. I also think that #1 & #2 are likely the go to for most players. This can account for the shared EQ on #2 & #3 Channel for clean/OD selections with #3 being it's own thing.

I really like the Revolt and saw one local for sale new in box yesterday and started thinking about it again. However, I had it with the CAB M+ (which is totally legit on its own) and sold my ReVolt when I got an OPUS when it was released, along with the CAB M+.

In your specific requirements situation at the moment regarding GK. My inclination is to look at something like the Master Effects Super 800 and either the CAB M+ or OPUS, but lean to the OPUS.

I have purchased additional cabinet IR's from Mesa/Boogie (PH215/SW212) that kill it! Also the Mothership 810 and 60's British 4 x 12 and will buy the WGrandBlvd Ampeg B15N. I use the stock Form Factor B410 with the AVIATOR (Darkglass) amp in the OPUS as "that tone" option. All of the one-off extra cabinet IR's are usually +/- $/€ 10.00 so not crazy expensive. I had no issues with Torpedo Remote going from CAB M+ to OPUS or coming back to the platform with my IR cabinet collection and registration of the new OPUS and removing the prior devices.

I have had many voiced questions during my experience and Ross and Amy have been right there with answers. You are never on your own.

These are very nice and flexible tone tools. My current line up is:

Mooer FOG Bass Fuzz
Pigtronix Philosophers Bass Micro Compressor
MXR Poly Blue Octave (see Jayme Lewis videos)
Boss SL-2 Slicer
Boss RE-2 Space Echo
Two Notes Opus

I also have a Roland D Bass 210 Combo I'm working into the mix, by getting a Saturnworks 🪐 Splitter, for a dry post Opus (no cab IR) to the Super Flat COSM preamp and a wet mix to (a) effects loop return with blend control or (b) stereo EFX for recording or FOH with the Opus dry (with cab IR) from the XLR DI output.

Two Notes is receptive to user input.

Jump in the waters fine...

It looks like Bryan @ Saturnworks 🪐 recommended a re-amp box TRS to TS to then go to a TS 3 Splitter for best results. Looks like a $99 box from Saturnworks. I also see a nice one from Walrus Audio CANVAS that has a good HPF in there too. I think I'm going with the WA re-amp box and a standard Passive 3 Splitter for this operation! :bassist:

Nice! Would be great to see all of this when it is hooked up if you have a chance to share anything! :)

It appears that the WA Canvas Re-amp box HPF is set @ 200Hz and has some other features that wouldn't be required, so probably not rolling that way. The re-amp box Saturnworks 🪐 makes has only a ground lift and volume control with TRS input and TS output. They don't have a buffered TRS Splitter as described in the product line and made this suggestion to have this type of 1/4" Hi-Z output post-Opus routing option for pedal processing.

The pedal platform requirements just got larger...

I'm just sitting here thinking that routing the post-Opus stereo effects processing into a switchable on/off stereo effects loop could also be handy.

Thank God I already have the snake cables on hand! ;)

Do you sleep? That was a lightning fast response. Another reason to stay with Two Notes!

I've been looking at that Opus for a while now and decided to pull the trigger. Hopefully you can get a GK in the lineup.

As for the Revolt...

1. Does channel one feel similar to channel one on le bass? That ones my favorite for most setups.

2. I've used different preamp with effect loops on them. Some work well, while others.... not so much. In your experience is revolt better with effects looped in, or is A/B with effects coming from the send better?

@PhatBottomBass1

Nice set up!

I currently have the following

Boss tuner
OBNE Haunt v2 with v2 mod
DG Hyper Luminal compressor (I like the option of 3 compressors in one easy set up)
MXR vintage bass octave (I can get the OC-2 sound from it)
EHX Qtron
Boss CEB bass chorus
Two notes Le bass

All this goes into an ampeg BA-210 most of the time.

I have others I put in the mix sometimes, but that's my go to.

I decided recently it's time to create a new board, so I've been searching "that sound" in all things I'm interested in. That super 800 you referenced... OMG I'm in the stone ages I think. That thing is amazing! I can't tell any difference between that and the real thing! And it's in my budget!!! Thank you! Still need to look into a few things about it working with effects and/or A/Bing it, but I think this might be a purchase regardless of what I set up. I think it will be this or the Revolt for my preamp.

I went ahead and got the Opus. I have just seen and heard too many good things to not justify the purchase. I thought about the CAB M+ as well, but the Opus just looked like a better long term piece to get.

Thanks again both of you!!

I've had no issues with the ReVolt effects loop, but others have expressed preferences.

Personally, in your case, I'd get the OPUS and the ME Super 800! Example, the latest Two Notes Bass head addition is a Mesa 400+ that is supported in the Genome computer system, but the OPUS brain horsepower is not sufficient to run it in a live situation without a laptop situation. However, the very recent (within the last few days) has a FOUNDRY BASS IR that you can update onto your OPUS. Point being, when the GK scenario is addressed by Two Notes it may or may not be something that you can pack around without laptop support. The ME Super 800 gets you there and works in all situations.

For myself, "the 400+" is nice, but not something I have to have for OPUS to be fully functional for my needs.

Thanks for the update - this board is going to be a monster for sure! Cant wait to see it!
I agree, having some post-OPUS FX being switchable would be killer! :)

HA! Well I do sleep contrary to popular belief - I am based in the UK so that might be why I am replying at strange times in your timezone!

In terms of channel 1 on ReVolt - it does - it's a high headroom clean that takes inspiration from an Ampeg SVT. Personally, this channel is my go-to with a tiny bit of pre-ReVolt overdrive dialled in.

In terms of ReVolt's FX loop. I tend to place Compressors and Drives ahead of ReVolt and any spacial or Mod FX in the loop for optimum results!

Let me know if this helps and if you have any more questions, I am here to assist!

Definitely will do that...

I spent yesterday looking into appropriate pedal effects that could potentially act as a splitter, to get the 1/4" mono dry signal (amp/no cab IR) post-Opus that makes sense from a utility perspective, that compliment the (stereo) SL-2 Slicer/RE-2 Space Echo arrangement being in a loop switching situation.

The pedal I'm leaning towards is the Boss CE-3 set to the mode 2 classic Roland wet/dry stereo output. This is also a time based effect, while having "Phase 90" type effect pre-Opus on the MXR Poly Blue Octave that is not time based. The Boss DM-2W also does this, but in this particular scenario, a delay is best after the Slicer effect. Additionally, a modulation delay like a Red Witch Binary Star has the Roland style wet/dry stereo output. It has pitch-shifting qualities as well.

I am trying to keep it on the rails to some degree and will have a wet/dry(with cab IR DI)/wet post-Opus signal with one guitar player (Hilell Slovak) and drummer with a viby female vocal.

Because inquiring minds want to know...

I'm not going with the Boss CE-3...but will go with either of Source Audio EQ2 or one of the three modulation pedals that will deal appropriately with a TS cable off of the OPUS, route mono IN to Wet/Dry OUT and has a 4 band parametric EQ and any of their Flanger, Phaser, Chorus options with pristine delivery.

The EQ2 is actually of more interest however. Due to same routing, more independent EQ options, Boost, limiter, shelving and HPF functions. There is also an adjustable noise gate just in case and tuner.

There is also a mono effects loop routing option, as well.

In your situation, I think that, regardless of your choice on the ReVolt, I'd definitely be snagging that Super 800 if it does the GK thing you want. I do something similar with my CAB M+, where I use a Sushi Box to give me my preamp flavour (Orange AD200), both into a neutral amp as well as the CAB. You'll have the option of using any future GK captures that Two Notes develop, but in the meanwhile, you'll have your guaranteed GK flavour at your feet!

Oh, and there is also this preamp pedal, which is supposed to be a near-perfect copy of the 800RB as well. Just as food for thought!

@sloppy_phil

Thank! I've been eyeballing that one too since PhatBottomBass1 recommended the ME Super 800 plus. They both sound good but that Comico seems to be dead on from the videos. Seems like their videos are hard to compare not knowing the setups though. So considering both right now for sure.

Thinking of putting together a simplified rig that goes like this...

A/B splitter A channel
Multieffect unit - compression, drive, wah
Preamp >send
B channel
Multieffect unit - effects >return
Preamp
Opus

Not sure about the multieffect unit, but I think this would satisfy a lot of desires and be portable in a way that is more convenient. Torn on it though, as I like my individual stomps. Will definitely keep everyone posted on the outcome

A fine choice right there! Cant wait to see this board finished! Might need to start rethinking mine too! :P

I sent Saturnworks 🪐 a note about a mono IN stereo OUT switchable stereo effects loop, after eliminating the splitter and connection stuff.

Also, the SA modulation pedals not only have channel independent selectable 4 band parametric EQ, but also a HPF that is adjustable and factory set to 10Hz with a 12db per octave slope IIRC on the slope. These two features makes the modulation pedal platform more likely than the EQ2 now due to unlimited flavors.

Very cool - I will have to give these a go as they sound pretty well spec'ed indeed!

So.... update. I bought the Opus, the Revolt, and the Dicosimo 800... they're all great, but I can get the time I like from the Opus and the Dicosimo. The Revolt is fun to stack with it all, but overkill for my needs. That Opus really has a lot more options than I thought!

Waiting on a couple of things then I'll put my board together and post a shot.

If anyone wants a revolt, used 3 hours for $50 off, let me know.

Glad to hear you are enjoying OPUS! Have you tried 4-Cabling the Dicosimo 800 and ReVolt together? Might be a cool 4-channel setup!
