2 Notes Opus

I did. I may be doing it wrong though. I set the guitar in the "input". Then the "send" on the Revolt to the amp input. The "send" from amp effects to the "return" on the Revolt. Then the "output" from the Revolt back to the return on the amp effects. Is this correct?

If it is I had some issues. It sounded flat. I also could not incorporate any of my effects in with it, as it would not register anything if I included effects. I would welcome any feedback on this one, as I am a little ignorant of this 4 cable method.

The method I have found to sound the best was guitar into amp, amp effect send to fuzz, to compressor, to Dicosimo, to Revolt, to multieffect, to Opus, to return on amp effects.

Hey Michael, that should be correct - can I confirm you had the 4-Cable Method switch set to "I" please

We have a handy support article here which details the connectivity: https://helpdesk.two-notes.com/portal/en/kb/articles/configuring-the-revolt-series-in-4-cable-mode

Let me know how you get on!

Made a couple of decisions on the post-Opus chain.

The Source Audio EQ2 on the no cab IR 1/4" output is best served in this manner over the SA modulation arrangement as it turns out for my application. With Phaser pre-Opus my interest is stereo Flanger and not so much Chorus upstream from the Boss Slicer and RE-20. Also a Boss stereo looper at the end.

The Boss BF-3 is a very good Flanger supporting a Bass channel mono input to stereo output fits best with EQ2 creating the dry to amp and stereo wet effects signal paths.

Right now the large brain at SA is considering how I will create a stored preset, that cuts the output signal from the EQ2 wet channel to the Boss stereo effects, to create an "effects loop" function to engage the activated effects, while maintaining the dry signal to the amp.

No re-amp box, no splitter and no switchable stereo effects loop! But will have ALL of the various EQ2's functions, boost and HPF (and likely LPF!). This would likely be the best possible addition to the OPUS for this type of application and others as well.

Sounding great! Cant wait to see a picture of the rig when it's done! :)

Dear friends,

Good news!

It appears that the answer to the post-Opus 1/4" NO CAB IR (no OPUS EQ) is, in fact, the Source Audio EQ2 WITH an SA Tap Tempo switch, set to latching function and keyed to #2 channel MUTE function to control a separate wet (mono/stereo) effects loop line for time based effects as recommended by Two Notes for best results.

Of course, the #1 channel is a dry + SA independent EQ control line for an amp or effects return input with OPUS preamp/power amp IR function.

Hallelujah 🤚🏼

Hey Ross! Sorry, works been crazy. Finally got some time today and most of my parts, so I spent the day testing, playing, configuring, and finally wiring.

Long story short, yes I had it set up right... i thought that the 4 CM used the two notes in tandem with the amp. Help desk was awesome in helping me with that.

So I tried other things... found some amazing tones i can use for just about anything! Not sure I'll be replacing this rig ever, but who knows. Still shopping for a decent octave (or synth) with octave, but I'm very happy!

So here's the lineup...
1. Boss tuner (will be where my octave goes, see note on B2 Four)
2. OBNE Haunt fuzz
3. DG Alpha Omicron
4. DG Hyper Luminal
5. Dicosimo 800RB Preamp
6. Two Notes Revolt
7. Two Notes Opus
8. Zoom B2 Four (A/B'd with Boss tuner showed absolutely no difference on tuning. I also found that all time based effects pre Opus sounded muddy. Post Opus they are extremely clear.)

So now I have 4 DI's in one pedal chain. Overkill? Yes. Do I care? Absolutely not! I'm like a kid at a toy store right now.

If you've read this far... considering the mxr poly blue octave (amazing sounds), but also ran across a Laney T85. I love the versatility of both. Anyone have experience with both? If this question is it of order for this post please disregard.

Anyway, here's my rig finally.

I am in the same camp on the MXR POLY BLUE OCTAVE

This Jamie Lewis demo is why I went this way...

It's a synthy pedal, it's has the Blue Box Fuzz that is its own thing... distinct in a raw way and basically having a single knob Phase 90 on it is cool for sure! Expression pedal control, if desired. I like it in Mono mode for the most part, too.

There are many Octave pedals...this is one of them...

P.S. you need more board space...

I watched that video, which is why I land so heavily on this pedal. It really is diverse!

I may end up getting a larger board, but I'm trying so hard to keep it compact. We'll see how that goes and if my feet get angry at me for it before I go further. Lol

Awesome! I am so pleased to hear you are up and running and that is one heck of a rig right there!

Thanks for sharing and if you need anything else, I am here to help!

Hey all. Just got a Two Notes Opus and have the Revolt coming Saturday.

What’s the best way to use them together? Is it easiest to use the Revolt as the preamp and the Opus as the Cab Sim or is there a way to connect the two so they work in unison?

I’ve been searching YouTube for a video on how to do this, but have come up empty.

@AmyTwonotes or @Ross Davies any suggestions, setup diagrams, or videos showing how to do this?

Thanks!

I'll jump in to say using the 3 Channel ReVolt as the main preamp can talk to the OPUS with 1/8" TRS Midi and change cabinets when changing channels, if desired, by setting the ReVolt to send messages.

You can read a bunch of the Two Notes printed materials available to get a better idea of various configurations, effects loop functions, best effects practices. I found the printed materials very well done and useful, but ya do have to read it.

Thanks for the response. I’m 100% new to the midi thing. I did download the manuals and read through it, but I think I need a better understanding of midi and how it works. I’ll do some googling and find some basic videos on how midi functions. Thanks!

It is really straight forward with the ReVolt because it is "limited" to a few specific functions. If you are using the OPUS + ReVolt you can turn the ReVolt IR (8x10) off and have a clean DI from ReVolt and a full ReVolt + Cab IR on the OPUS XLR DI output. It's really very expansive, but not overly complicated.

Ok. Question from the peanut gallery, since we're on the subject. I've never used midi or any functions like that, but am interested in this. What are the benefits of this method?

Also... just because I'm new to the ir thing... where can I get quality ir's for the Opus specifically? Is there a type of ir in looking for?

Hi,

The benefits are that you don't need a separate Midi controller to talk to the OPUS for some basic functions based on the ReVolt footswitchs changing from one channel to another. You can actually do 4 different operations with the ReVolt Midi messages.

You may want a #1 Channel (clean/SVT) with an 8x10 cab IR, then #2 Channel (dirt/Marshall Super Bass) with a 60's British 4x12 and #3 Channel (off the hinges distortion) with a 1x15 or whatever?

I've only purchased Cab IR's, beyond what comes with the Standard Opus, from cabinet collections on Two Notes Torpedo Remote account made by other companies like Mesa/Boogie.

Thanks so much! I really have some learning to do in this. I gotta try this out.

And i thought about the ir question. I should have thought that through before posting it. Apologies

I've gotten a few from Two notes. Living the mesa subway, swr working man, and bull neo.

PS... it took about 3 hours to decide on the larger board. It arrives this week.

It is actually very easy to setup the MIDI. The default settings match the clean channel to Ch1 of the OPUS, vintage dirt to ch 2 etc. I am a MIDIot and had no issues. I actually don't use the preamp or cab sims in the OPUS, but use the power amp section, EQ and Enhancer (comp, thickness, HPF/LPF etc.) They really play well together. I went to an ampless rig and I love it.

Hey @ZombiiBass,

Thanks for getting in touch and thanks to everyone for weighing in here! Our suggested connectivity method would be to use ReVolt as your Preamp and OPUS as your Poweramp Simulator, DynIR Cab Emulator and Post FX unit. This gives you the flexibility of ReVolt's FX Loop as well as an all analog front-end and a digital back-end. In actuality, this is how I have my rig configured at the moment and it works a treat!

In terms of connecting both units, I would suggest coming out of the 1/4-inch OUT output into the Instrument Input of OPUS and set the input selector on OPUS to Line - its that simple!

You will then need to create some OPUS presets, however if you scroll through the preset list there are some that start with "LB" - these were created by me and are designed to be used with a ReVolt Bass in the front end! A great starting point and can serve as good inspiration for your own Presets!

If you want to MIDI sync both devices, you can use a standard 1/8-inch Aux cable to link both devices. You will then see OPUS' presets change as you change channels on ReVolt. Simply move your presets you want to use to each of ReVolt's channels to the first 3 slots of OPUS and you are set!

Let me know if this helps!
