$20 Mosky Black Rat

Oh man, why did I go there and search “bass guitars”?
I see some things I may want. Esp a fakenbacker with a maple fretboard in natural finish. And those fake RD basses.

WTH man, why did I see this?....they have an acrylic bass on there! I've wanted one of those for forever. I know it won't be no Dan Armstrong but dang, for a few hundred I'm willing to give it a shot! And I would love to get a fretless J or PJ from there too. So many cool basses.

I don't think LM308's are rare at all. I see tons of em on Reverb. Sounds like another boutique marketing scheme to me.

Finding a good authentic part ends of costing about 5-7x compared to the standard single op amp say a TL071. There are clones and counterfeits on the market. I ended up buying TO package LM308s for the current run of Wraith-
M2s for that reason.

Interesting. Curious what that day job is.

I develop test fixtures and software to test/screen/qualify electronics for aerospace and military/defense industry. They often are procuring obsolete technology for older military platforms so we have to screen and detect counterfeit and clone electronics to make sure they do not make it into the military or aerospace electronics supply chain.

I'd say that qualifies as pretty cool and important.

So, A/B’ing the rat tail and the black rat. The black rat can get some identical tones as the rat tail. But the rat tail can get a ton more tones that the black rat. So there’s that. But the black rat can sound just like the rat tail sonically. I dimed the tone on the BR, switched to turbo, dist around 1 and volume to taste. Settings on the RT are totally different. Goes to show how much different the two are. But I was kinda surprised I could get an almost identical tone from the BR as the RT. Pretty cool.

good to know that people are getting something for paying 8x the price of the mosky for the cat/rat tail
I only paid 5x the price with my MXR Bass Distortion :D but the MXR stays because the Mosky just plain doesn't have the bass response of the MXR. Greg, I came to find out, isn't as fussy about that as I am due to the nature of his music and usage of distortion, but in my band, lower bass response = unusable for bass. But it's highly usable for guitar so I'm still glad I got it.
