According to the article... Nashville has the right to exercise their "first right of refusal" which they did. That is they say they will match the contract. Now comes 11.3 & 11.4:

11.3 Validity and Enforceablility (of SPCs). Except as expressly set forth in Section 11.5 below, no SPC shall be valid or enforceable in any manner whatsoever unless and until it has been filed with Central Registry and approved by the League or the Arbitrator.

11.4 Signing Deadline for Group 2 Free Agent. An SPC for a Group 2 Free Agent will be rejected and will be null and void … if it is not signed and filed with Central Registry by 5:00p.m. New York time on December 1 in the then current NHL Season.
No SPC has been signed and filed yet.

I just don't know if I can classify him as one of those players I hate when he's on other teams, but I'd love if he'd be on the Flyers. He just seems to be such a slime ball, more of the Avery type. Too much mouth and not enough player and to back it up. Maybe with a couple more years in the league...

He's one of the few players in the league I wouldn't cheer for even if he was on my team. Hate that guy, and not in the I hate him but respect him way I hate Hartnell. The guy is just scum.

LOL @ all the Subban hate. Everytime I ask anybody to give me a reason why they hate him, there's nothing ever concrete ; just a bunch of BS. Jealousy, plain & simple. There are lots of players I don't like in the NHL, but I'd *love* to have them on my team, if I were a GM.

Subban will stay in MTL. There is *no* way the GM will let him leave. A player of his caliber with that much upside who plays 100% every shift doesn't come that often.

Surprised nobody mentioned that Paccioretty got signed for a 6-year extension at 4.5m/year until he's 30.

I'd take Subban on the B's in a heartbeat; skills up the ying-yang. Five minutes at a practice and the flopping would stop. With his younger Brother Malcolm in the B's system and the recent trend of brothers winding up together, maybe it's not so far-fetched. And if it is, then hell, nothing like this to spark the rivalry three-five years from now.

It's pretty far-fetched... for now. The MTL Canadiens won't let him go or there would be a public lynching with the GM's neck being in the noose. ;)

And considering the rather weak D that team has, there's no chance they'll let him walk. Gorges is reliable, but Markov is injury-prone and hasn't played enough hockey in the past 2 years to get into any sort of groove. Emelin has plenty of potential, but I'm not sold on his defensive play, yet... though he can hit and those hip-checks are nice to watch. The rest of the squad is pretty average to bad.

and a line with marshmont & subban would be hilarious.

I started reading that story first at TSN, got distracted by the Subban story, came here to post about it, and forgot all about Max.

Subban....well, I'm sort of mad at him still for when he cut Jordan Staal across the top of the foot a couple years ago in the playoffs. He has certainly accumulated his dirty reputation from his on ice play, but I think some maturity will get him away from that. Hopefully. He does have some great skills.

Almost every single NHL player plays dirty. If everything was called, every game would consist of 3-on-3 hockey for close to 60 min.

The Flyers signed Simmonds to a 6-year contract at roughly 4m/year! What? The guy scored 28 goals last season, but never went beyond 14 beforehand. A bit of a risk. But,... if he keeps it up, it'll be one hell of a contract starting next year. Some people are even complaining that he should've been signed for longer, too.

Wow, six years is great for Wayne. I wonder what Hartnell will get, or Giroux when they come up.

SM...I can't really disagree with your comment. I just think Subban sits a little too close to the edge of dirty. I don't watch as many Canadiens games as I would like (I am a big fan or Price, Eller, Budaj, and Georges), just what the networks make available here in the USA, so most of what I know about Subban is from highlights and the handful of games I have seen. Particularly the playoff series with the Pens in 2010.

With the lockout bearing down, the Flyers open the checkbook again. This time signing Hartnell for six more years. Early numbers say $28,500,000. That seems like a good deal for a guy like Hartnell.
