2013-2014 NHL playoffs thread.

Finals should be interesting even though I don't have a dog in this round. Best goaltenders in the league going at it. If their (goalies') final game of the last round would be any indication, Rangers take the Cup. In 6?
Lundqvist faced fewer shots from a Montreal team with less offense than last year's champions so I don't think final game of last round would be a good indicator. Kings have been scoring a lot of goals in postseason as well.

I must be the only one that thinks the Rangers may only win a game or 2. Yes, they made it, but went through Philly, Pitt, and Montreal, while the Kings went through 3 of the top 7 teams in the league in the Sharks, Ducks and Hawks. The Rangers will need their offense to click, and for King Henrik to lock it down every game IMO. Mike is right, that they may have their emotion to carry them...but that won't last for 7 games. Kings in 6.
Right.

I missed your comment. If I had noticed, I would have agreed with you. I think emotions and momentum play key roles at this point in the NHL season.

The guys on the radio this morning were talking about St Louis' dead mother as if she were a tangible factor & more or less suggested the supernatural as a force the Kings don't have in their array of weaponry.

I changed the f'n station.

LA has had the far more difficult path through the playoffs than NY and they've succeeded by proving they can adapt to their opponent night by night and even period by period. Suter as head coach gives them the advantage.

And goaltending only becomes more important as the playoffs progress. The Stanley Cup finals always depends on your goalie being able to routinely pull miracles out of his trousers and not give up soft goals. Certainly the Kings and the Rangers have stellar goaltenders at this point, but I think Quick has a slight edge here for LA. His pummelling from the Blackhawks only means that he's at the top of his game.

Personally, I can feel happy for whichever team wins.

But, Kings in 6.

This matches my assessment of what's transpired so far.

Gee I didn't know Ryan Suter was the Kings' head coach. Jk. Just messing with you.

Lundqvist just has that deeper tank. He may blow a game but he'll come right back at you. Quick, not so much. Rangers will counter-punch LA. That will be their game.

I can't but agree completely that the Kings are by far the favourites, with a huge arsenal of offense, and an amazing goalie. That said Rangers ability to adapt has been tremendous and we all have to remember they have a coach extremely familiar with the LA Kings type of game. It's going to be tremendous hockey and I think the key will be who dictates the speed of the game.

LA got through one heck of a conference matchup before coming here. I just hope they don't take the Rangers lightly...they also went through some formidable opponents as well.

In 2012, the Kings had an easy conference matchup. They only once to Phoenix and Vancouver and had more than enough juice to beat the Devils for the Cup.

Now, they had to go through THREE game 7s to get here. They definitely don't have as much juice as 2012, but it's more than enough to keep going.
