2013 Ampeg V-4B 100W Reissue Pt2

Well, Xmas came a day early for me. I had a 212AV on my Amazon wish list and my parents hooked me me. Can't wait to gig this January with my V4B. Amp gas totally gone now. (For a weekend player, I'm very well set for any size gig).

Only oddity is a factory dent in the side. No dent in box. Oh well.

My new SVT112AV came with no Velcro/hookNloop on the cab side; only the cloth grill side. So when I unpacked it out of the box and sealed plastic bag, the grill fell off on my living room floor. I called my sales rep at Sweetwater about this. They wanted to send me a new 112AV and have me return this one, all on their dime to ship both cabs. Told them OK. Then just curious I called Ampeg to see if they'd just send me out some Velcro to install on this cab myself. They said they don't send out such parts, just return the cab like Sweetwater asked.

I guess lines got crossed cause Sweetwater forgot to send the second 112AV to me. So I called them up again after a couple weeks and asked what was up. My sales rep apologized and said he'd have his guy call me to get my ship info right away. Well, I wanted to use the 112AV at a small gig the week before. So I just slipped a couple small pieces of thin cardboard at each top corners of the cab. The grill stayed on tight. I told my sales rep, look I kinda already fixed my cab, can you just discount my Sweetwater CC a few bucks and call it even. He kinda balked on a refund so I told him I was about to order a couple 10' XLR cables from them to extend my 20' XLR mic cables. I asked if he could just give me a couple cheap, 10 footers and call it a day. He said OK.

I expected them in the usual 3-4 days that it takes Sweetwater orders to arrive to me here in TX. Next day UPS guy is knocking at my door with my Sweetwater package. They sent me two very nice Live Wire 10' mic cables and I guess they over-nited em. Cool cause I had a gig that same nite and got to use my new cables. At some point I'll fix my cab properly with Velcro but the cardboard pieces are stayin in place and so is the grill.
Maybe OP should take a pic of his dented new cab and call his sales rep and shoot him the pic and maybe ask for a small refund or some small piece of gear he can use, inst cable, strap, etc. Cant hurt to ask.

Odd they wouldn't send out the parts, but I'd guess they probably don't stock them stateside, probably would have to have them send over from manufacturing so it's easier just to send out a cab.

At one time Loud did send out parts such as replacement tubes but things have changed. I can't blame them, they are supposed to deliver a working product. Who knows, maybe there's a penalty that the offshore manufacturer pays to Loud to cover the cost of QC issues.

So I have been gassing for the 212av to add to my V4B Classic and PF500 amps for awhile. Read all the reviews, watched all the demo videos, asked people questions. Built up some huge expectations on how great it was going to be. Of course I shared my enthusiasm about this cab with my wife :-)

So my wonderful wife teamed up with my mother and got me a 212av for Christmas. I knew it was coming because I helped get a discount on it, but I wasn't allowed to see it until Christmas morning, heightening my anticipation even more. I could not wait to hear the awesomeness that this cab was going to emit when all was hooked up.

Despite all the hoopla that goes on at our house on Christmas day (good stuff) I did manage to get about 15 minutes of playing in that day. Then, over the days since, I have been able to try it out using various basses and amp heads, changing settings and seeing what kinds of tones I could get out of it.

And...

It's amazing :-)

Expectations exceeded. I can't wait to use this in my band setting!

Ya know, I was thinking on getting the grill cloth to match, but seeing it in person, I kinda like the look of the av cloth. I was going to look into the cost to see if it was worth it - could always switch them out as wanted - but have not yet. Anybody have an idea of the cost of the black grill cover?


- also, my wife kept it at my MIL's house, so it was easier to resist temptation... :-)

Or as I suggested in another thread; that OP just change the front cloth on his Classic tube amp to match the AV cab cloth. Much less work and cost, if you don't mind sorta defiling your Classic amp that is.

Or just do nothing; its' gona sound awesome either way. :thumbsup:
