where are the TAD tubes made??

Designed in Germany, made in their facility in China (these specific "black plate" tubes). They sell also rebranded, but quality control is top noth. Pretty expensive for some stuff.. But that black plate reissues was realtively cheap as I remember.

tubeampdoctor.com - worldwide. Pretty well known store in Europe.

Edit: Huh. Now they're pretty expensive. I think I bought it almost for half price around 3 years ago. Invalid Link Removed

They make also a 7027A. errghh. They rebrand it from JJ, pricey like for rebranded...

interestingly, I posted my question here for ampeg, and pm'd them that there was the question in the thread in hopes they would directly respond and clear up our speculations....but no response despite being on TB a couple times. hmmmmm....

7027A is a 35 watt dissipation version on the 30 watt 6L6GC (published design values) that was aimed at the HiFi market. The value of the 2nd added screen connection is of what real use. 7027As were tested at the higher plate voltage and dissipation but the design was purported as a beefed up 6L6GC.

I hope you can take this as a definitive answer, EBK.
This thing has ooomph. Make that OOOMPH. With some cabinets maybe even too much low end. A 1974 V4B was used to A/B the new one, and all of the gear-heads at Ampeg agree that the reissue sounds virtually identical to the old one.
As for the 7027 Vs. 6L6 issue? I took one look at TubeDepot.com and saw 2 different 7027s and like 13 different 6L6s. Who doesn't like options and availability?

6L6GC is not equivalent to any 7027. Anyone who tells you that they are equivalent is someone who's trying to sell you on a 6L6GC.

In this case it is a direct replacement, as I said.

Hey, there's no such thing as "6L6GC specs" or "7027a specs". Every company has its own specs. I will say that 7027A's and 6L6GC specs vary from around 30-35W dissipation. Both. If we're talking about power of course.

For example, JJ 7027A is 30W dissipation, TAD6L6GCSTR"BP" - 35W.

*As I was reading now sheets for JJ 6L6GC and their 7027A the sheet was identical except for one capatitance value (which it does not matter here). Curves of plate and transfer characteristics, width, height, contruction and all other specs are completely the same.

I'm wondering how they did "mushroom" tube replacement, it kicked the mid switch as I remember. Is that near the solution that guys from ampegv4.com did few years ago with 12ax7s?

Which cabinets did it have too much low end with?

Thanks,
Liam

thank you hodgy! (actually, I would take your word as even more "definitive" as you've always been a no BS kinda guy!! I thank you and my checking account hates you.

They're probably running it 450 / 450 so expect it to do just under a hundred watts with 6l6gcs / 7027s
