There's a V4B thread on Ampeg's Facebook page where Ryan addresses that exact question...
"Infinite balls compared to the V-BH."
"The circuit is dead on and tone is all there."
Haha! That was Ryan responding to my question on FB!

LOL!
In 1978 I bought my cousin's ex-husband's 73 V4B/810 and I used it till it got burned up in a bar fire in 88 or 89.
I ran a similar rig - V4B/SVT810 - from 75-85. 10 years of club gigs with not one single fail. Never even had to replace the tubes! I still say it was the best tone I've ever gotten from an amp rig!
I decided to downsize in the late 80s and sold the amp and cab. I'm actually embarrased to say what I downsized to.
If this new V4 sounds like the old one I'M IN! Looking forward to your review JimmyM!
Same here. 72 V4B thru first 2 b15 cabs, then v4 EV cab, then a squareback. Best sounding amp i ever had. Preferred it to my 76ish SVT except when i really needed the headroom...then i would use the squareback and the V4 cab.
so.. this has 6l6s like the v4bh. does anyone know if it has the same "weak" 100 Watts as the v4bh, or is it more a beast like the original?
I had a V4BH for about 3 gigs and got rid of it. I was using some pretty bad speakers at the time, but just never got a sound I liked. I kind of want one of these.
Well the lure of the V4B became too much to resist, and I've decided to buy one.

I got the SVT810 shortly after getting the V4B, but for a short time I ran my V4B through a B40 cab. Not sure what amp that cab was designed to go with, but it sounded pretty darn good with the V4. 4-10/no tweeter configuration - 1/2 a Fridge. After hearing the 810, it was all over though. Carried many clubs with no FOH with that v4B/810 setup!
Here's a gutshot Ampeg posted on Facebook when Dawn the engineer put it together on a cart:

I only see one transformer and I suspect the other one is hiding behind the front transformer, but it looks pretty good sized.

That is awesome! What a dream job that would be. Push the cart in "hey guys look what I just built!" Too bad much cant be told by that pic...
Can we get pics of Dawn? ;-p hehe
So will this thing have Biasing lights and adjustments or?
There's a reason that Ampeg chose to use 7027 back in the day instead of 6L6GC. It was all about using rugged, higher performance tubes in their amplifiers, because Ampegs ran at voltages that tended to destroy 6L6GC.
While the 6L6GC was designed as a common tube for the commercial market, the 7027 was designed as a higher dissipation/ premium-quality ruggedized tube that was intended for more extreme-duty use. It had a 35W plate dissipation instead of the 30W dissipation of the 6L6. Back in the day the advertising literature talked about higher headroom and lower distortion. (..cut..)
