Does anyone know where the rumour about SED halting receiving tube production got started? The first place that I heard it mentioned was at MEF, where an American expat named Stan who's moved to Russia commented about it because he allegedly got privileged news from a local source.
In these internet days, all it takes is one guy to start a rumor and then it spreads like wildfire. I'm wondering if there's any truth to this, or if Stan just started an internet rumour to help improve SED's tube sales, thereby convincing people to pay more for SED tubes than the equivalent JJ tubes out of fear that they would no longer be available.
I'm wondering if it's nothing more than a clever channel-stuffing trick. One of the American distributors for SED says that the rumors aren't true, that the only tube they've halted production on is the KT88, presumably because it costs too much to make that envelope shape.
I'm wondering if everyone's being taken for a ride. Where did you first hear the rumor?
