You have a shelf port. Three of the walls will run the depth of the cab but the fourth wall will be shorter. Take a look at the bottom of the cross section of this cab. You need to measure that fourth shorter depth. This is the only missing piece of the puzzle; we're getting close! :)

In the front of the cab, the board that holds the speaker goes down and likes a 1in and a Half from touching the bottom of the cab. Then there is a hole about 1in and a half wide clear across the front. I will try to find a picture of a cab close to it.

Don't have WinISD on phone but if we can get everybody on the same page with these measurements somebody can plug it in and tell you what you have there. Just trying to find out if you should modify the port any, you may not have to.

I take to mean the port is 1-1/2" high, and 18-1/4" wide (width if cab minus middle brace). Is that much correct?

There's no stupid here, it is just difficult to discuss this without pictures. It sounds like you are saying that the port only has three walls. That would be very unusual. That would also mean that work has to be done to the cab before it is suitable to be a bass cabinet. It is worth it if you want to move forward. You really need to take some pictures of the cab interior so we can see what is going on.

My cousin called said he read my thread, told me not to put know money into this old cab. He said it wasn't worth it, and he would give me his LDS 2x8 cab. It might sound cool with my Markbass Jeff Berlin. I play blues and learning jazz. I'am sort of a stubborn old man, I still like to get this cab up and running. Maybe its not worth it I don't know, would I be wasting money.

Whether or not it's worth it is up to you but I'd think you'd be able to recoup the money by selling it if we're only talking about the cost of the driver, maybe an afternoon of tinkering/cleaning it up etc. CB15 is around $130. I think partsexpress.com shipping is free if you spend over $100. Used to be that way anyway. There's an eminence dealer here in town if you want to do it locally. Prices there are comparable to internet orders on other stuff I got.

Austin speaker works at Rundberg/I-35.

It's hard to get a decent price for DIY stuff sometimes because people don't know the technical stuff about but this has a brand name/label so shouldn't be a problem.

I guess he is going to bring to me Sunday. If I like it I'll use the 15 cab for a guitar cab. I have a Egnator tube head,and I like playing clean through a 15. I will keep you posted, never used 8s don't know what kind of sound I'll get. May go back to my project. So please everyone hang in there with me until I find out. Can't find much on LDS cabs

LDS (low down sound) is a custom builder. Do a thread search, lots if guys here have them. In general the 2x8 will have more mid/high response (punch) than your 15 but not a lot of lows on it's own. That's not a hard and fast rule regarding speaker size/tone but it does turn out that way in a lot if commercially available bass cabs.

I look a little on the internet, all the cabs I've seen the 10's are side by side. My cousin said this one has a 10 upper corner and bottom corner. Who know's could be a good marriage to my combo. Jeff Berlin did not like tweeters. My cousin got this used,but it's in very good shape I guess. He's gone from home doing a job, I like to get the size of this cab. HxWxD. I look on their website and they don't show this cab,all the 2x8's are side by side. My other cab still might get made yet. Two 15's are a 15 and 2x8. I must thank you 33 and everyone for helping me, but hang jn there we ain't done yet.

The way the speakers are spaced/lined up will affect it's dispersion (how much mids/highs you can hear off to the side instead of right in front of it) but something like that will probably be similair to your 15. A problem you can run into when mixing different speakers all playing the same thing is their phase differences cancelling out some frequencies making the sound less clear. Sometimes they work good together sometimes they don't. Only way to know is to hook 'em up and play 'em.

If you end up sticking a guitar driver in it I'd seal off the port so it's not so woofy. If you end up making it a permanent guitar cab you can chop it down/make it smaller just so it's easier to carry around. Don't need that much box for guitar. Cutting a removable back into it's an option too.

I couldn't wait, I took my Jeff Berlin to town played all the cabs I could find with 8's in them 2x8s and 4x8s and even a Markbass 4x8. Went to 4 different places, did not like them at all. I'am sticking with putting a 15 in this cab. I always have my old Carvin 212 cab to use if I don't like the cab after I get done. I like the Carvin but it defeats my purpose it weighs 85pds and bulky. I bought Markbass to go light and compact and this cab is going to be easier to handle.
