2ohm head

Bass Gear Magazine measurements state the the head doesn't quite live up to it's rated specs, apparently due to line voltage sag.

It was almost definitely due to line voltage sag, and even so, it got really close to the published specs. With a regulated power supply, I have no doubt that it would have met or exceeded Carvin's specs. Of course, most of us don't gig through a completely regulated power supply, which is why we test the way we do.

But FWIW, our take is that the Carvin B1500 fared very, very well in our bench tests.

As for being too powerful for the cabs, I agree that it should not be a problem. Remember there is a volume knob on most heads, and you can turn it counterclockwise, too. :smug:

Tom.

GBE600 GBE750, I've owned both and for outdoors now I use B1500 w/ 2 Neox 212T cabs, sounds great. Just got Eden 210XLT & 410XLT, using the GBE750 with those cabs, that rig sounds great. Also, have a NV215 that I use sometimes.

All my cabs are 4 ohms so Im almost always running at 2 ohms and only with 5 string basses. Also in the Texas heat, no overheat or overpowering issues and NO PA support in either of my 2 bands. So I feel I'm really testing the limits of all this gear. :bassist:

I use a Kustom Groovebass 1200.

Great amp and get 1200 watts at 2 ohms. Reminds my quite a bit of a Mesa Boogie (but solid state, though).

It was about $600 brand new a couple of years ago, and I expect you can get one now for $400 or so used since I don't think they make them any longer.

I'm with you all the way. I have that head, and you definitely can't get more bang for the $ in that price range. I got mine used in mint cond. along with the Groove 410H cab for approximately 1000$. The cab is a bit bulky, though :hmm:

I have that too. I have not tested it under 8ohm though. Love it. Got mine in mint for $500-600ish two years ago (in Norway though).

I also have to show my love for the Kustom Groovebass 1200. I picked mine up in the fall for $400 in mint condition. It's powering my 4ohm Ampeg pr410hlf and it sounds killer! After our gig on Valentines Eve my guitarist said that the bass coming out of my cab was airconditioning his balls. The Groovebass 1200 should really be considered since it perfdectly meets the criteria you've listed.
