No wrong answer. For me the better the wood looks the more I’d lean to 2-tone because you see more of the grain. If it’s light grain it doesn’t matter so the dark edges make a nice frame.

I prefer subtle 2-tone bursts, but I have a GL with the red that i really like,too.
It’s one with a definite black halo, and black sides and back. (Which i like better than having the back match the front).

Either is fine with me, as long as there’s no tort involved.

I know people love it and think it’s a classic look, but tort on burst just does not look good to me.

some 3tb looks better than others. Personally, i think there's too much red in that, but since there's only those 2 examples i chose 3tsb..That 2tb was called "tobacco burst" at one time i believe, more brown than orange.

I like the ultra clownburst 3tsb. Vibrant red, yellow, orange. The more clown the better!

I don't like sunburst. I like yellow. I like red. I like black. Somehow when you spray them all together on a body I just don't like it.

Even so, I have one. 3TB with a solid black back. I like this body because of the grain and the very light weight.

The red in a three tone sunburst is the key to appearance.
It has to be blended Just right or else it looks tacky.

In general I’m not the biggest fan of sunburst.
It would never stop me from owning a sunburst instrument (I always wind up with one it seems), but if there’s such a thing as “too traditional”, then I guess sunburst is it.
My old 1997 Gold big flake Flea bass was proof that there’s no color that will deter me from owning a bass if it plays and sounds good enough.

Ric is capable of a really great two-tone burst, but nobody else. Therefore, three tone for me.

I like old school three-tone target burst finishes. Don’t care that it doesn’t take as much finesse, it just looks swell.

I like love 2TSBs and 3TSBs as long as they're done well. But sometimes a 2TSB can look pretty dreary and a 3TSB that's too bright looks garish.

Not every burst is created equal.

I prefer a 3ts, but the color hues matter to me. If it’s a classic black-red-yellow burst, I don’t like the red to be fire engine bright. Looks cheap to me. I like a more faded black-brown-yellow burst or something like a tobacco or desert burst.

For me that 3 tone has too much orange in the red. I like a three tone when it has a subdued red transition that is easier on the eyes and not as wide a transition.
