Nearly everyone has said chorus, I don't understand why.

For me:
Boss TU-2.
An octaver (if I can only have 3 pedals I would want one with fuzz, Boss OC-3 perhaps).
Digitech Bad Monkey (I really like the sound and the speaker sim is very useful).

I find that interesting too. I have owned a few Chorus pedals (Behringer, digitech Multi chorus and boss CE-5) and heard a few others, but im yet to find one that im sold on.

All I really use right now is an OC-2 and a Big Muff so I guess that's all I need. I would like to add a comp to that though...

Was playing around with that while my guitarist borrowed some pedals last week... I think the combo is great.

Also, if I'm down to three pedals, I'm probably not picking something sweepy like a chorus/phaser... for me those are more fun than "essential".

Probably a reverb of some kind, though I haven't really found the reverb for me yet, a delay, and either a wah or envelope filter.

I would taks a SansAmp BDDI as a good substitute for a borrowed rig and OD, an EMMA Discumbobulator for funky stuff and an HBE Psilocybe for spacey, tripped-out stuff. All of these sound great in conjunction with each other, IMO.......IME.......

Hmm... This is tough since I haven't used a pedalboard in nearly two years.
Does the Roland V-Bass count? If so, I'll take that, a Boomerang, and the J-Retro stomp.
If I can't have a V-Bass, I'll go with an Ibanez TS-9, Akai Deep Impact, and either a TC Electronics SCF+ or Roger Mayer Vision Wah.

I know the tuner is a boring choice and technically not an effects pedal, but is is a pedal and I personally never lave home without it. My Sansamp is always close behind too, for a bit of overdrive and the DI function....
