Not my pic. A local player has one of the 32 inch Fender Urge basses that she gets a lot of good sounds out of. I personally don't like the way all of those pickups feel under my hand, but it does sound good.

Ah! The magic sound of a G-3 through a vintage Acoustic 301! (Had a similar setup for many years except with an Acoustic 150 head and Ripper.)

I bought an ebony Ripper in 1976, brand new. I just didn't like it, and once I found a 64 P bass, didn't play it. I traded it for a new G-3, and dang, it was a nice bass. It set in the band like the P or my J, while the Ripper just got lost. The neck felt more comfortable and Fender-like than the Ripper.

Very nice bass.

i've never owned one or played/messed with one, but am i correct in thinking that the farther apart the pickups are from one another = most useful for tones and variations?

some of those don't look like they would make much difference.

but some of those axes look killer! cool pics, Ric5 .

What?!?!?! The middle pickup is a hum cancelled for the single coils.

Then why is there a midi input jack next to the controls?

Those pickup the bitones (tritones?). I think they count. I'd have no use for em, but some do..

GREAT idea! I need to measure up my Strat and Jazz bass tonight. If it looks like the parts could work I just might pick up a cheap J and Strat to mash together. I can do my own pickguard from aluminum and I just happen to have a Sadowsky J pickup in a box somewhere... Can't think of any other parts I might need? Ought to be able to do a little work with a router and drill and knock it right together I guess.

The Paul Reed Smith basses from the late 80s had 4 pickups. One was a hum canceling dummy coil on the back.
