3015LF Substitute??

Just noticed that the shipping box for my 3015 says 3015LF although it is clear the factory box has been opened before shipping. No part numbers on this driver; how can you tell the difference between a 3015 and LF model. Won't get to cabinet until next week so listening is not an option at the moment

The non lf has concentric rings in the cone.

Measure the depth, compare it to the data sheet. The LF has an extended silver coil cover bucket on the rear of the heatsink, making it about 3/8" deeper.

It looks like MF raised their price to over $300 now. I'm debating building a 2nd 15/6, so I may sell one of mine.

i recently picked up a pair of kappa pro 15lf2 for some 3-way PA cabinets...
they do the job nicely and i chose these before this price of neo drivers sky-rocketed.
kinda wish i had paid the few extra bucks for the 3015 lfs, now...

After accepting that there was no suitable substitute, I ordered a 3015LF off eBay from an auction that was mentioned earlier in this thread. So I scored one at the old price!

I installed it in my Carvin 1503 today.

Prior to this, I had replaced the crossover with a 2nd order Linkwitz-Reily with parts and values obtained from Erse Audio.

Before testing, I used my dB meter to measure output at 40 Hz with all amp controls flat -- with the input pad engaged and the drive and volume straight up, I got 96 dB.

With the 3015LF installed, I got between 100 and 101dB -- so a 4-5 dB gain on the fundamental.

Seems worthwhile to me!
