Check out Lakland. I am pleased with my Skyline 55-01 and the mid ranged priced "Made in USA" versions can only be better.

You're definitely new around here...
LOL.. Great post! I feel the best way to remain neutral is to fall "smack dab in the middle", then you can side with anybody. But you also would get a wealth of experience with this company. Do your own due dilligence. 34 1/2 scaleYou have literally hundreds of brands of basses to choose from in your price range. Problem is, you aren't going to find what you're looking for at Sam Ash or Guitar Center. However, I encourage you to stick around TalkBass for a few months, where you will be flat inundated with folks like me showing off and bragging on our boutique and high-zoot basses, which we believe makes us better people! And we will all recommend whatever we bought, which is the best you can get or else we'd have bought something better.

Some notes for the new guy about Talkbass:
1. Never put too much weight in a guy's opinion when he has never kept a bass for more than a year.
2. 90% of guys who say that _________ is the best in the world have only tried a handful of basses at best.
Welcome to Talkbass.
