I used to use my Enabler to drive a power amp when I had the pedal. My church had an SWR head with a garbage preamp, so I just ran the Enabler into the Effects Return and it sounded awesome. I'd try and run it off of 12V for more headroom, but it should work great for you.

I use other preamps now, but my Enabler drives my Crown XLS1000 without any issues at 9v. Using 12v might be something to consider.

Definitely. You could also do distortion with a tube amp but I'm sure you have a pedal for that ;)

The OBP2 colors the tone with that Aguilar sound. I happen to like that sound, so don't misunderstand. The benefit of the LBB (vs an active preamp) is being able to turn it off and on quickly with your foot mid-song without fiddling with knobs. For passive instruments it's killer!

Maybe that's it; I've kind of failed to see the use of a boost pedal myself, but I chalk tbat down to using active basses with lots of tweakability onboard, and not using an overdriven tube amp I can push using a boost pedal. And that suits me fine, there are always other pedals to spend money on. :)

As I have said before, I use a clean boost to push tube preamps. Basically gives you another gain setting accessible by foot as opposed to turning a knob. While that could be achieved by an onboard preamp, it would only work if there were no other effects between your bass and preamp that can be affected by the boost.

The added EQ on the boost is appealing to me in case you'd want to modify that new gain setting ever so slightly.

I already have 2-3 Clean boost solutions so I did not order an LBB, but it's eq still have me curious about it. But, you know, I'm trying to be reasonable about my pedal purchases...

I don't use mine to drive another preamp. I've done that before with other pedals when recording, but it's not something I use live.

With eq flat, the LBB is a great volume jump at the touch of the pedal. I like that. I generally play with my bass's volume at or near max. The clean boost gives me a volume increase for solos, harmonics, or even for slap. The eq really works well though. A touch of bass and a touch of treble makes my slap sound shine. With the switch, it's instant on and off. Ergonomics, and personal preference I guess.

Although I love my little black box on my passive (Lakland) J Bass, it get's a ton of use on my active basses too. I'm finding a ton of utility in it, and despite it being the penultimate pedal on my board, I keep it up front because I use it so much. It's been the solution to many problems I've had concerning loss of volume (usually due to certain techniques) and when I need a little extra to cut through or keep up with loud guitarists. And you know, I pop it on with my chorus (Polytope) too to bring my volume back up.

I'm sure that there are plenty of other fine boosts, but I wish that I had this pedal 20 years ago.

Hey, Spencer, I'm curious what the concept behind each position on the LBB's Treble toggle switch is? I remember you mentioning one is ideal for emulating the sound of new strings (especially useful when playing with flatwounds) and that one is more of a traditional treble center frequency.

(I'm on the road right now and will be for several hours, so I thought I'd ask which position is which since I don't have the pedal in front of me.)

The high treble gets that nice airy boost sound that works great when you want some more zing out of roundwounds. The lower treble is more of a general-purpose boost that works well on everything.
