Never played any 3 Leaf gear thus this question is there a major difference between the Proton V3 or V4 other than the second dip switch?

I know the V4 has the same trigger as the Chromatron, so there will be a likeness

The Proton v4 and Chromatron share essentially the same circuit, which is a fresh take on the earlier iterations of protons/wonderloves. The Proton v4 and the chromatron are both bright, and clean filters. They have better control over the overall tone IMO than the wonderlove v2 (Idk 100% but i assume the wonderlove v2 is similar to a proton v3 as far as circuit goes)

Wonderlove v2 to me is a more juicy bubbly filter, still pretty clean sounding. But i've found i can't get quite as much nuance using the tone knob compared to the newer filters

Reverb has v3s up fairly frequently, you'll find one for 300-350 (what I would consider 'fair' value) maybe once a month if you keep an eye on things. And I believe the next pedal drop from spencer should include some v4s if you're patient/ not time constrained

There are a few Groove Regulators and Wonderlove v1s around for $300 or less lately. Great filters if you have the space.

I wish I never sold my groove regulator. I loved it so much. Only let go of it when I got a chromatron.

I had a Barge Concepts Grinder for a while... jeez, was that something. Just too big on the board and too much filter for my needs, but I do wish I'd never sold it. The simplicity and sound of the Proton continue to keep it in my top 3 all time filters.

FTelettronica’s Meatball clone is great albeit large. They added notches with 2 sizes around the knobs which makes it much easier to recall or share settings. The loop is great in it as well. I will say the Chromatron's sweep was better but I dig the overall response, feel and sound (can get much wackier) of the FT. If I want to bypass the filtering and just use the loop I put it into down sweep mode and turn the envelope knob to off. Two quick clicks does the trick. But again, it's much larger than the Chromatron which I would buy again if it makes a comeback.

What's your top3 OAT ?

As a self-admitted envelope filter junkie, and after owning/trying 40+ filters, here's my top 3, in order:

1. Pigtronix Bass Envelope Phaser - with honorable mention to the BEP's predecessor the EP2, which I still also have (modded with a volume knob by Dave Koltai at Pigtronix).
2. Line 6 Helix Auto Filter - Listed as a "Line 6 original," but seems heavily based on (and "about 90% there" to) a Lovetone Meatball.
3. Proton V2 - Had the Fromel V1 and upgraded to the V2, which I still have. Didn't really feel like V3 was that big of a change, so skipped that one. I've always regretted not getting a V4 before 3Leaf went dormant for a while, so definitely hoping I can snag one with this upcoming drop.

That said, if I had to choose a "there can be only one" filter, it'd be the Source Audio C4, because I've been able to program a lot of killer envelope filter sounds on it that are MIDI accessible: Bassballs, Filter Twin, a passable Bass Envelope Phaser sound, among other various clean and dirty envelope sounds (most of which are posted on the Neuro Community, for those that have the SA pedals). And in addition to being able to load Spectrum presets, the C4 has synth.

I've been eyeing that FTelettronica for a while now. Super tempted due to nostalgia for the Grinder, but holding me back is the fact that I probably wouldn't actually use it on a pedalboard due to size, and having the Auto Filter mentioned above. Still though.... I've got an itchy clicker finger for that one.
