3Leaf Audio Club - Episode 2

I've put way too much thought into this, but if Spencer is upset that flippers are making more money off a pedal than he is, his angst is misplaced. He is not supplying the demand in the market for his pedals, so demand higher than supply, classic Economics 101 case of price inflation. I can't get a pedal from 3Leaf, but I can from Reverb. There's a 2023 Proton for $600 now. If it goes to $500, maybe I'm interested. I would prefer to buy from Spencer, but I can't. I know, I have the same chance as the flippers, but I'm working during the day. I really can't tell everyone to go to h-ll for the next 15 minutes, I'm buying a guitar pedal.

Alot of people on their moral high horses. I think it's pretty well understood by now that Spencer does things a bit different, and that definitely rubs some people the wrong way. The debate about anti-trust laws and tying is a bit ridiculous, given the absolutely miniscule scale of his production and the myriad of other options available.

Yup, I do hope none of the internet lawyers in this group ever actually end up in front of a judge. Though it does mean their incompetence often ends up in a Youtube compilation video with others. :). So maybe a funny win for all. :). Everyone is an expert these days. :)

But totally agree, however you have to remember this is the internet... Jay and Silent Bob summed it up nicely a while back - just replace "movies" with "pedals" or your item of choice. :)

I know, I have the same chance as the flippers, but I'm working during the day. I

I'm sleeping at night when they generally drop. Setting an alarm for 3:50am to be at my computer at 4:00am is also not fun, also means you aren't at your quickest typing and processing the quick sale. The other end of that spectrum was 4:00pm, which is also work time, so same argument you have, I can't always stop and jump online, as well as work restrictions on the internet means some sites don't work perfectly - and if you were up at 4:00am, you are tired at work and when 4:00pm comes around you aren't at your quickest again. So damned if you do, damned if you don't. Unfortunately, and I know running a business, you can't please everyone. It just isn't possible, there will always be people that can't make a time or date, or will complain about a price or service.

But there are other drops, you can wait for the next drop of the pedal and see how you go. Generally speaking the more pedals that drop, the more the second hand market should equal out, meaning cheaper second hand pedals for you. So you are really saying that you don't have the patience to wait for the other drops this year. Which may go slower, may go quicker, or you may just find that the reverb prices start getting more reasonable. Something to wait and see.

We don't know what things will be like next year. If the 300 total pedals for each type comes out this year, and this continues regularly next year, i'm sure there will be more and more chances of picking up what you want, directly from Spencer, at the normal price he is selling it for. It just means people will have to, *gasp*, wait a little to get what they want, rather then the instant gratification many people are used to and seem to be expecting here.

Proton just turned up a few hours ago (Gotta love DHL). So far really like it. Only have a MXR envelope filter at the moment, so A/B'ing both of those, definitely has a different sound and will take a little to dial it in right. I have a sound I liek now coming out of it, but still need more time to play with the controls. :).

Are there any settings people recommend / like using? And with an Active or Passive bass?

yeah... not a good look :(

I don't follow why Spencer is surprised these sold out instantly. Even with the tied preamps, was that outcome ever in doubt? I also don't follow why he asserts that the preamps are responsible for the speed of the sale. That's demonstrably not the case because the preamps have been in stock since their release on April 17th. The Octabvre MKIII was the motivating product here.

He knew the Octabvres would sell out regardless & was using the demand to his advantage in order to offload some preamps that hadn't been moving under the guise of doing people a favor lol

I'm sure there are, but it's probably not worth the saltiness to post here right now.
Not "saltiness.' I posted right after after I got it. I feel "fortunate." I tried, my girlfriend tried, and another buddy tried. I got ONE (to replace the Ghost), and now have all three. Fortunate to have gotten it and The Proton; the Doom was a reverb purchase (to replace the Ghost). Very fortunate to not have to do this again. It is a pain in the ass but doable. I have no special internet speed, an old laptop, and realize it is hit and miss. Something I don't want to do again, and I hope the number that are due to be released in the coming months will largely satisfy those who want the products.

Edit: The replacement of the "Ghost" was in part due to the appearance but, largely, I find the lettering on the finish VERY difficult to read. At least for me.

It’s unfortunate that odd business practices get in the way of how stellar the pedals are. Happy I got most of the 3Leaf pedals I’ve owned before the wild price jumps and silly combo sales. Currently rocking the Octabvre/DOOM2/Proton combo and loving it.
