I think the kicker is when it’s delivered by Royal Mail when it hits the UK and a flat £8 admin fee is levied in addition to the 24%ish tax and customs duties. I got stung for £180 taxes and duties on a Doom recently because the seller insured it for twice the sale value.

Just checked, my S1 was actually $50 P&P, new. Horrible price for postage but didn't have to pay any additional taxes on top.
That something no one needs and anyone who desires one probbly already has a few great iterations of (bass filter effect I mean) sold any at that price is pretty incredible. As is this whole, highly entertaining thread the past year or so. Shows where we are in the economic cycle.
Speaking of, the Japanese yen has been in free-fall.
The USD is flat over the past 2 years, and up 15% the past 3
The yen is down 22% the past 2 years and down 33% the past 3 years.
Points being: 1. If “inflation” (proper term is theft by currency devaluation) feels bad lately here, yet we can still arse about pedals, imagine how it feels over there, and 2. The BOJ had its first raise (from *negative*, yes *negative) in official yields in 17 years and ire at the yen price (and its many short sellers - only amateurs left short the yen at this point) has been expressed publicly by at least 2 very powerful persons in charge, while at the same time stock markets should soon tank, so expect the yen to skyrocket soon.
Now back to our regularly scheduled griping and poetry:

I’ve just checked and the pedal was £289.73 but the duties were £190.21 because the seller overdeclared the value. It should have been about £350 all in but ended up closer to £500. It can be quite difficult to claim excess customs charges too.
The Doom pedals are my favourite pedals for a few reasons, the main ones being it sounds great, it refers to a cartoon I love and it’s the pedal that got me interested in boutique pedals. That price really stung though.

I know what the exchange rate is. That's why I said equivalent to people who live in Japan. Paying ¥74,800 feels like $748 when salaries haven't gone up in the last 30 years.

Were the recent batches of 100 Protons sold at ¥30,534 or do you mean the rolled steel or black oxide versions (or older)? That looks to be about $200, which is two-thirds of retail - if it's the pre-2023 versions, presumably exchange rate differences play a part because in the late 2021 pedal releases units were $249 direct.
No they were older ones from years ago. You can search for 3 leaf and you can see all the 3 leaf stuff they've sold through out the years. The exchange rate has definitely played into the pricing difference. I really wanted a shift line pre amp. The first MKiii's cost ¥59,979 and the newer MKiiis's are at ¥92,400 because of the exchange rate. As far as I know the Shift Line costs have stayed consistent or at least not that big of a difference between models?
Thanks for the quick response. I'll steer clear of looking at what they've previously sold; I occasionally dig up pre-Covid second-hand pricing for 3 Leaf, Iron Ether and Cog pedals and the difference is crazy. It's nice to see regular releases from each of them.
Yeah, the MKIIIS seems to be the same price it was a couple of years ago.
Hahaha...Yeah I know what you mean. I haven't been back home to the US for about 8 years. Kind of worried about going back home now.
