In other news, I received a notification this morning that my Bronze Age Doom 2 shipped.
I also found the new thread idea a bit odd. While I agree that past performance is no guarantee of future results, it also doesn't guarantee that it won't happen again.
I don't want to beat a dead horse, but I've had two separate awful experiences with Spencer.
Years ago I bought a new Wonderlove that developed a problem after a few months of use. I emailed Spencer, and he outright dismissed the problem, basically saying his pedals don't break and that it was a user issue. I had to have a local pedal builder fix it.
Years later, I decided to give the Octabvre MK3 a try when it first came out. Within a couple of weeks it started corroding and the print started peeling off. Not the worst issue, but an issue nevertheless, especially when paying $333 for an octaver.
Initially, Spencer promised new face plates for free. I emailed him requesting one (I think this was 2021?), and I still haven't received a response. It was YEARS later that he started SELLING* them on his website for $33 + $33 for shipping to Canada.
* I think he was offering them for free for a short period of time at first -- still years later, nonetheless -- but I had since sold it.

+1. Zachery Rizer’s demo inspired me to land on those settings in combination with effects. I didn’t get on with the Doom 2 much as a standalone. However as others mentioned, I’ve come to appreciate it as more of a synth pedal than a fuzz
Yes, it really does make a difference. When performing a search, you can limit it to "everywhere," "this forum," and "this thread." There is also a "threads" option, but this doesn't actually let you whitelist two or more threads; it reflects a category within the advanced search in which you can search across threads which share a prefix such as "Classifieds - For Sale" or "Get Togethers - US: West." There is no way to search multiple normal threads (i.e., threads without a prefix). You must either search every thread on TalkBass, every thread in a forum, or a single thread. You can also restrict search results to posts by a particular user: this is very helpful, of course, but not in every instance.
The search function is your friend here, folks
As noted above, click the search icon (magnifying glass), click the gear to pull up the search parameters menu, restrict the search to "this thread," and enter any of the keywords I mentioned in the post to which cactusjuice replied. - "Price Discovery" Auctions
- Doom 2s, Octabvre MK3s, and Proton MK4s are available regularly and, considering Spencer is a one-man shop, at a high frequency
- approximate release schedules for future drops are published, providing crucial transparency and hamstringing sellers seeking excessively inflated prices on the secondary market
- we're getting the Octabvre MK3.33 in a couple weeks!
- new colors and exciting features (glow-in-the-dark, fluorescent) appear with nearly every batch
- fun, custom editions like the Japanese Sakura Proton MK4 are possible
- the replacement faceplates for the Black Oxide Doom 2s and Octabvre MK3s were finally released (and, @Just Wrong, they were indeed free for original owners and I think still are)

It’s cool to see others using the Doom 2 as a low gain device too. I was using it for that purpose at the weekend and it’s a hefty tone with Gain at 9 o’clock-ish. The EQ capabilities are quite surprising.
Thanks for posting that, @Erithon , I really believe having this stuff open actually lets folks form opinions themselves and also puts any mystery about these discussions to bed.
One thing I really like about forums is the ability to be candid and provide multiple perspectives.
If I wanted all positivity I’d only watch YouTuber reviews. Sure you can dive into comments there but hold onto your hat sometimes it can get wildly uncivil. TB on the other hand is well moderated for discussions such as this, imo.

I'd forgotten about the whole racist Fulltone/Chinesium story. That was truly awful. Gotta love people defending Spencer by saying he was probably out of the loop about Fuller's comments that lead to the company's downfall. By all means inform yourselves, but please remember all of these instances were thoroughly debated when they occurred and, without new information, further discussion here will be unproductive and exhausting. 3 Leaf Audio has a checkered history and I've called out its dubious behavior when it has happened, but I also recognize that 2024 was a year free of shenanigans so I'm happy to let the past speak for itself and instead highlight all the positive progress:

Me too. I had a Mini for years, but about a year ago went to an OC-2 and I don't miss the 3Leaf. Maybe this new one will have some feature I have to have?
In other news, did anyone notice the "unique" Octabvre MKIII on Reverb (listing now Ended)? The seller, based in Italy, says that "This pedal is a single edition made especially for me by Spencer." I'm disinclined to believe this claim because it looks to me like an Octabvre with a Seafoam Dream faceplate. But, being generous, perhaps Spencer did send this individual an early faceplate? Even that doesn't hold water, though, because the rest of this enclosure isn't Black Oxide or Ghost Nickel so it shouldn't have needed a new faceplate. And the faceplate itself raises the question: if Spencer made this as a single edition using 304 Stainless Steel, why would it need a faceplate at all?
As an aside, I hope the Doom 2 gets the two-color treatment at some point. because I think the monocolor is less visually interesting than its two-color counterparts in the Proton MK4 and Octabvre MK3 circuits.

The threads have been merged back into the original. There is no reason to start a new thread when the old one is going perfectly well.
Perhaps it was a test run for the new printing technique or a sample colour enclosure? It’s quite nice and looks a little similar to Icefall. That does look like it has a faceplate on it though as the model usually smoothly rolls at the top of the faceplate. Have just joined the Doom 2 fan club... arrived yesterday and am blown away...standalone or with other pedals it's absolutely smashing the granny out of the litany of other fuzz pedals I've had on rotation...just sounds so meaty but still cuts through. Please don't judge the cabling...I haven't had a chance to get this board together properly!!

About to go try mine pinned between the subsonic and the josh wah. Last 24 hours have been Doom 2 solo, now to see what this thing is all about.
