So you're doing dual truss rods, like the real deal? Which rods will you be using, might I ask? I'm curious because I'm about to start a little neck-through bass project of my own. I was considering a two-way truss with two graphite stiffeners, but I'm kind of unsure...first neck build for me!

Keep 'em coming! Your builds are the first ones I look for nowadays!

Oh, so sub'd. Is the throat on your bandsaw too narrow to run your neck through for cutting off the back waste? Seems like it would have worked since the neck beam is so narrow. I simply cannot get a decent plumb cut out of any jigsaw I've ever tried, ruined a couple good pieces of lumber trying.

No, the bandsaw isn't powerful enough to cut through maple. It just stalls. I need a more powerful one. I can't get a decent plumb cut either from my jig saw, but we have to make do.
 
Rough cut the headstock and neck taper. Tomorrow I can trim the neck to the fretboard, and start on the preliminary neck shaping.

I'm wondering if all truss rods get slightly thicker near the truss rod nut. That was a pain to sand out to fit.

And I just set the fret board in place to make sure the truss rods were flush.

OK, not so thin after all. I'll wait to tomorrow to glue the fret board in place, after deciding if I want to thin it out just a tad more. Then I can rout the neck sides. And then radius the board. Or maybe I'll start rough shaping the back of the neck - that might be easier with a flat fretboard.

How much wood is left under the trussrod at 5/8" neck thickness? The consensus seems to be 3/16" minimum under the TR to avoid blowing out the back of the neck. I've been agonizing over this myself, wanting to keep my neck as thin as possible. Will you have problems with bridge height if you thin out the FB?

Edit: realized I repeated Lisa's question. Lisa, how much wood under trussrod on your build?
 
The truss rod rout is 1/4" deep (if I remember correctly) so that leaves 3/8", minus what I'll shave off. If the bridge height is an issue, I'll have to sink it in to the body a little. I had to do that on my first build, the Reformer.
 
I'm using a stock Ric bridge, really don't want to recess it, so I'm stuck with top of FB about 1/2" above body, so thinning the neck out is my only option. Two trussrods kind of limits what you can shave as they are farther out along the "C" or "D" profile.

I think those truss rods need at least 3/8" to be flush, so if your neck is 5/8" that leaves 1/4" of wood to work with... I may be wrong, but I used a similar truss rod recently and needed 3/8" to accommodate it.
 
Well I went for it and shaved down the fret board to 1/4". That'll leave about 1/4" of wood on the top and bottom of the truss rods.

Oh, and you may also see I drilled the tuner holes.

It seems I have a rule I developed over the years. If I touch 3 or more tools within a half hour period, I seem to cut myself. Lets just say I won't be playing bass for a few days until my left pointer finger heals.

Oh, and the top pic, on the left, is a router my husband picked up at the thrift store today for $5.00. I'll take a closer look at it tomorrow.

Neck is out of the clamps, and I trimmed it to the fretboard.

I'm hoping that G string tuner won't be an issue. It's awfully close to the truss rod rout.

Using a truss rod cover may also pose a problem. I probably should have shifted the entire headstock further up. Live and learn.

I think you should probably plug the tuner holes, veneer the headstock, and drill it as a 3+2 instead of a 2+3 headstock. The tuner bushing is going to hang over your truss rod access, and there will definitely be problems with a truss rod cover.
