4x10 vs. 1x15 Cabs

And in four minutes, no less.

Please, please, please drop this from the repertoire. There's nothing more trollish than basically saying "I'm smarter than you and more objective than you."

Did I say I was better than anyone? I'm giving the explanation on why the "Musician A plays this!" argument is vapid and pointless...it's an age-old marketing scheme that professional sports has used for decades. Just because an athlete with skill at basketball wears a certain pair of shoes doesn't mean they have the best support, are the most efficient, and sturdiest shoes out there. A degree in Kinesiology is not required to be an NBA player, neither is a degree in acoustics or audio physics required to be a popular musician. People just assume they are "in the know" because they are talented or famous. I would have been falling prey to the same things if it weren't for some very knowledgeable guys on here that have steered me in the right direction and away from bad purchases MANY times over.

Um, yeah, definitely ice pick to the frontal lobe.....moving right along though I prefer 1x15 cabs for a couple of reasons. I like the low end rolloff you typically get over a 4x10 and single 15's are a lot easier to move for quieter gigs, tiny stages, rehearsals etc. If you need more volume than a 1x15 wants to do add another matching cab and you're up to the same SPL ballpark as a 4x10.

Yes, in fact your whole point is about the gullibility of others. Listening with your eyes and falling for marketing both convey a strong negative opinion about the thought processes of other people. You can make your reframed point above without mentioning either of those things.

Lowest sounding cabinet I have ever played/owned (lower than any 2x15 I have ever come across) :

I just went to GC & played one while ago

I would beg to differ considering you are moving much more air with a 15" as appose to 4 little speakers. just my opinion really. I have had both and love my Raunchy lows.
OK, so you got an answer you don't want to hear. But that doesn't change the fact that, as a general rule, a 410 will go lower and louder than a 115. Perhaps you didn't do the calculation that shows the projected surface area of a 115 cone is 177 square inches, while the projected surface area of the speakers in a 410 is 314 square inches. Do you still believe that your 115 "moves much more air"? You would do well to research the specs for various 115 cabs and 410 cabs for a comparison.

a 1x15 produces approximately the same air volume as a 4 x 10
I don't know why so many of you compare area of the opening
The depth (height) of the speaker is as important as the diameter
Calculation for volume of a cone: V= (pi r squared x h)/ 3
pi = 3.14
r= radius
h = height (depth of speaker)

the 410 will be a little louder than a 115, but not nearly twice as loud

SSSH Munji; he just wanted us to agree with him. Your logic isn't helping, he's not hear to listen and learn. :thumbsup:

e.g. ESP's Victor Wooten Signature MusicCord-PRO Power Cord - only $199.99.

In this case would you calculate the VOLUME of a cone, or the surface area of a cone?

Unless I really messed up in HS geometry the surface area calculation would be the correct one, as it correctly plots the size of the tone generating surface. Volume would indicate that the empty air that sits in the cone is the tone generating surface; which it clearly is not.

Why is the volume of the cone relevant, as opposed to the surface area of the driver?

When 40 percent of the U.S. population apparently believes that the earth is less than 10,000 years old (recent Gallup poll), gullibility is definitely something that can be exploited for great profit. I certainly have a strong negative opinion about the thought processes of at least 40 percent of the population, then.

There are no 10" drivers whose frequency response goes to that level. 5kHz is about it for any 10". Now coaxials are a different beast entirely.

hmm, trace elliot, ampeg, swr and eden must be lying then....read their specs. they made em up......whole point i was getting at.....if you have a theroy on something, do some research, post the facts that support it and then show your work. what you believe and think are often different than what is....
