It’s a beautiful piece of maple.
Re-sawing by hand is a lot of work! Figured hard maple makes it a serious chore. You deserve a beer, or something.
Using potato power is satisfying though, even if the pace can be frustrating. Lately that effect seems to get reduced the more work I do by hand. That’s one reason I minimize my power tool use. (Don’t have the tools, or have to be quiet are others )
I’ve tried resawing with western push-cut saws but just never got the touch to feel good about it, so when my old Diston walked away, I didn’t replace it. Japanese Rip saws make it a little easier for me to control the cut on the pull and the long handle feels more ergonomic. A guy I used to work with long ago hated them and had good results the other way so I guess it’s personal.
All that said, if anyone wants to give away a nice band saw, I’d give a nice home.

I started by cutting as deep as the table saw would go on both sides, and am just cutting the center spline.

One of my *other* expensive hobbies is homebrewing. And I make a darn good gluten-free hefe clone that tastes like blue moon. This batch got a bit over carbonated though...

It goes superbly with the walking tacos we're having for dinner.

Frito pie involves chili, walking tacos involves taco meat. Also doritos vs fritos.

Frito pie is a layer of fritos in a bowl, covered in chili, covered in toppings.

Walking tacos is a snack sized bag of doritos, with taco meat (not chilli) covered in toppings, eaten out of the bag. Although Costco has bigger single serving bags of chips just for walking tacos.

I get that. But the local fair here sells "walking tacos" that are literally Frito bags with chili, cheese and onions in them. :facepalm:

Materials update, tuners and fretwire arrived!

I was able to test fit the tuners on the template, and I am very happy with the results! I need to find a 14mm drill bit, but that's a problem for another day.

The fretwire I had requested that they send me 18" lengths that were pre-radiused, but they sent me shorter precut lengths. Fortunately I have about 2mm of spare length for the longest fret!

I'll stick with my maple-syrup-marinated-moose-meat sammiches. :bag:

Busy afternoon turning big pieces of wood into smaller pieces (and lots of sawdust!)

Pretty sure I have my neck blank. There will probably be 1 more maple stripe to set off the mahogany body. And I need to figure out how to taper the walnut center.

My walnut pieces are 44 inches at the longest usable length. The bass is 43.75" long. Whew! Dodged a bullet there!

Yeah, I would think a router fixture would work. Just clamp a straight edge and use a flush trim bit, step down in small increments, I don't see why it wouldn't work. My fear would be tear out at the skinny end.
