50w-100w Valve Owners Thread

Alright. This rig is inspired by a few recent threads on TB. First JimmyM getting me fired up about old tube heads again. Second was the recent 2x15 thread. Also the threads on buying lighter weight stuff. And lastly just my quest for better tone and not just more volume.

So here is my Ampeg B25B. I paired it with 2 newer 1x15 cabs. I was going for a "modular" B25B speaker config. One that I could take just one cab for a small venue and two for bigger. The cabs have 8 ohm speakers so I had to rig up an "ohm doubler" box that puts the cabs in series for the 16 ohm impedence I need. It sounds great. And for only 60 watts it is plenty loud. Now I just need to get everything into our practice space.

Here's my 1963 Kay model 720 bass amp it's got loads of fetures, like volume and tone. It's running at about 30 watts of pure bliss.

tis a old 2x8 p.a cab i brought for £14

but nice and boxy

it does sound MARVOLUS with my 1x15 though

The white sovtek is for bass.
The other two are used as g****r amps.
Gotta love guitarists that use valve bass amps.

Anyone ever use one for bass?

I played through it and LOVED it.
It was designed/sold as a bass amp to begin with.

Nice B25B! I have one just like it, except mine is not nearly as good cosmetically. One of these days, I will put on some new grill cloth, tolex and faceplate.

I run mine, with a series cable, through 2 Bill Fitzmaurice Jack 12s. For a low powered amp, it's pretty loud.

my dad used to have a 60 watt sound city amp

he had to sell it when i was born though

although when he went to sell it his cat jumped out the back of the thing in the shop

Mine's the YBA-1A, it's a great sounding bass amp and built like a tank. Love it.
Keeping company with a V4-B, 2000S, and some overweight overpowered thing...

Got LOTS of compliments tonight on the sound of the Sovtek > 2x15 cab.
Several guys wanted to know *** those little sovtek amps were all about.

I tell you what, I am a firm believer that bass players chasing more and more watts are missing out on some soul in the process. /rant

I didn't even know a bass version existed before this thread, but I do know the 5-watter for guitar can get pretty damned loud.
