He said he switched from stringed instruments to woodwinds years ago and he's selling the bass because he wants the bass to be played. Ironically the band's bass player just bought a Dimension for $1200 or so last month.

I know what I would rather have

Still a cool bass, but sadly, a dime-a-dozen online. FWIW, those usually go for $2k or more (in most cases), so it's a good deal IMO. If you like it, scoop it up!

Those screws strip pretty easily. I see it on a lot of old Fender basses, mine included.

The bass is pretty cool, but there are a few things that illustrate it's early 70's assembly line heritage:

• The nut slot spacing is off
• The D and G strings don't line up on the pole pieces very well.
• And check out this shot of the body at the neck joint:

^ Yes, that wavy body joint is typical by the early 70's. My 72 P was that way too. Very worn jigs at the factory.
