'70s Fender Precision love

Pretty late 70s...
this 79 P has been with me for 1,5 years now and for some reason I don't play much else anymore.
It's been modded (additional J-pickup obviously, brass nut and there used to be a badass bridge on there...apparently all the popular mods of the time ;)).
Someone routed a cavity for a 9V battery (active EMG pickups used to be in there), which might contribute to the comfortable weight of 6.5 pounds.

What else? The necks got a bit of a backbow, but the tension of the Hi Beams give it just the perfect amount of relief (with the trussrod all the way loose) and the frets are pretty worn...I love this thing! Sorry for blabbering.

Very cool. 6.5lbs? That's incredible. How does it balance for you?

Aw shucks...I conveniently wanted to convert the weight for you all (from germany and used to kilos) and promptly miscalculated heavily...It's of course more like 8.3 lbs. ;) Sorry for that.

Still pretty comfortable...

Now THAT is perfect! That's right where I like mine to weigh-in as well.

Here's my '72 neck'd fretless.

Question, I read an article awhile back by Dan Erlewine about fender neck profiles over the years in which he mentioned they made some p basses with a light U profile in the early 70's.

Mine definitely has this, (I love this profile) but I was just wondering if any of you have seen/felt this in a 70's p as well?

I've played worked on a several early 70's fenders, I even played with another '72 fretless and I've never felt another one with this profile.

That is my dream bass!

'79 think I am going to find her a new home, but a sweet bass and very broke in

I have a '78 in trans red. Super cool color. Mine has tons of classic 70's Fender finish spider-lines/cracks. All original but for the jack. I do not play it much as I have so many others that are lighter and have slimmer necks. Still, it is a neat "period piece" as, to me, it represents the prime/pride of the bean counters that tried to kill Fender. :)

Reactions: A-Step-Towards
Sonoma thinking of replacing my 70's stamped logo tuners for something a bit lighter. Are there any direct replacements like gotoh resolites? Would the reso cover up the extra holes if I were to get them? Thanks!
