810e vs Heritage 810

The Sam Ash near me just dropped the price on a new 810e they had sitting there awhile to $899. I've been holding out for the money to order a Heritage 810 ($1299)but am thinking about the 810e now because of the price. Is there enough of a difference in the sound / construction of the two to warrant the $500 price difference?

I've got a Heritage 810 and while I haven't directly compared it a Classic 810 I know both sound great when I've played them independently and I've read all the reviews you probably have. Personally I wanted the Heritage rig and to my ears it sounds like heaven, but for that price difference it may not be different enough to matter to you.

I use rented SVT 810e's all the time on the road, and I love the sound of the new ones they make almost as much as my 73 SVT 810 with CTS alnicos. But you'll never get that kind of tone unless you use very low power handling speakers, so the current 810e is a good balance between tone and power handling. That said, I've never played the Heritage but everyone I know who played both says the Heritage is an improvement. Show up with either one, though, and you will be good to go.

FWIW, I recently got a new 810e, a little more than a month ago. It is VERY bright. I was condering the Heritage for more brightness, but I'm glad I didn't. The newer 810e's with the chinese eminence drivers are REALLY good sounding cabinets.

That being said, I do find myself wishing I had the sparkly grill cloth on the Heritage line..... :hmm:

Also, keep in mind that the 810e has the robust tolex, whereas the Heritage 810 has the smoother, more fragile tolex. That may or may not be important to you.

I caught my Heritage 810 on the corner of the door on the way out of the music store--:crying: Little glue took care of it later, but yes it's a big cab so watch those corners.

If there is a "drawback" to the Heritage gear it is the tolex. That's why I shelled out the money and bought a live-in case for the cab...I plan on keeping the gear looking like new for about 30 years and then selling it for $1,000,000 (best Doctor Evil face) :D

I have a Heritage 810 and an older 810e (not one of the newer ones). I did A/B tests with them and to my ears the Heritage sounds just a bit better, but not by a whole lot. And I could probably eq the difference with my amp.

The Heritage tolex does tear easier than the 810e. And the grill does look better, IMHO. Not sure if the casters on the 810e suck, but the Heritage casters do.

Is it worth the extra cash?? That's your call. I got my Heritage when Amazon had the screaming deal ($757, IIRC).

Yep, the new 810e casters do indeed suck. Mine chunked up severely after one roll across a small parking lot on its first gig. I found quality replacements with identical size and hole pattern at a local hardware store. Much quieter, too. Good investment to replace them....
