Put the Neo P in.

I have a Fralin PJ set ready to go into the maple PJ body (it's a Peavey Foundation S body).
Need to shield the pickup cavities, put a bridge on it and install the pickups, wiring, volume and tone pots and output jack.
I don't have a Neo P pickup and I already have two Yamaha Attitude basses with a P pickup in each.
What I don't have is a body that is ready for the awesome 916 AL-Neo TBird pickup pictured above.
It is a great sounding pickup and that is what I would like in my third bass.
The bottom line is I don't need that maple (maybe not maple) body in it's current configuration but could route the P pickup spot for the TBird pickup.
I don't really need the unpainted grey body with the route for the T40 pickup either but I could add a route for the TBird pickup.
I've cut my quiver by a dozen in the last year and want three basses in retirement because one is really enough now.

Sometimes good to get a push one way or another, and sometimes good to talk it out to get your mind made up.
It's Bassinthemudd's fault for encouraging me to blab some more.
If I take the maple body and put the TBird pickup in the split P spot, I probably won't really want the J pick-up which leaves another ugly hole to cover.
It's probably easier to route the grey body for the TBird pickup in the P position and then take the T40 pickup here and drop it in the spot that is routed for it. Then I can harass my son until he gives it a nice paint job.
Or fill the hole for the T40 pickup and just put the AL-Neo TBird pickup in the P positon and have a PeaveyTBird bass.

My opinion on this is that if someone is even pondering the possibility of considering the act of thinking about, or has thought about the possibility of pondering whether or not to consider putting a 916 pickup into a bass, or bass body, that pics of said bass, or bass bodies, will in no way muck up this thread.

I must reiterate that this is my opinion, and as such, it's most likely to muck things up a bit.

Here is the body I bought from a former Peavey employee, then sanded it and clear coated it.
It is obviously made to be a PJ bass but my mind is wandering towards putting the 916 AL-Neo TBird pickup in the split P spot.
I would put a different trim ring around the pickup, probably a wood one made of something that would look good.
So, the question is, do I put the TBird pickup in the Foundation body in the middle where a P pickup goes or put it in the clear coated body where the split P route is....or do something completely different.

You are right, the Fralin is a split J pickup which makes it a better than normal J. I think all J pickups should be side by side splits for nice noise free operation.
If I did that, I could go back to plan A with the grey routed Foundation body and just put the T40 pickup where we routed for it and make it a real proper old school sounding bass... if it ever gets painted.
Or if somebody bought that T40 pickup from me, I would just abandon that grey routed body and call it a day.

I like where you head is at on this. I have a project for a while from now where I want to take my hackberry (looks like ash but isn’t) 86 Patriot body and route it for the Tbird neck position (and you know I’m going to put a 916ThunderNeo in it) and I’m going to take one of Matt’s inline humcancelling Super Ferrite prototypes and put it in the Foundation bridge position, so super similar to what we are talking about for your gorgeous maple Foundation body. Thunderbird neck for that Martin Turner Wishbone ash vibe and bridge Super Ferrite for that Geddy bite that a Foundation bridge pickup does so well…it would meet nearly all my seventies Prog-rock needs.

Also…what year T-40 pickup is it, do you know?

Even with your accomplished son, I hate to see essentially irreversible changes to things that aren’t available anymore. It’s your stuff and I’d never try to tell you otherwise, but I’d much rather see new modded instruments and classics or semi-classics respected. Sorry to be contrary.

While we are doing show and tell, this project from the Peavey side of the forum has updated a bit in my mind so I'll share it here with it's 916 pickups content:

1984 Peavey Patriot (I misspoke on it being an '86) - "Wetton Turner Overdrive"

Updated Mods To Be Executed:

• Install 32" scale maple neck with rosewood fretboard (and turquoise fretboard dots) Warmoth Warhead neck
• Chrome Hipshot Ultralite tuners
• Chrome Hipshot Kickass bridge
• Route the body for a Thunderbird neck pickup in the classic (adjusted for 32" scale) 60s Thunderbird neck pickup location (like Martin Turner favored/favors) (and, of course, when I'm ready to build this you KNOW I'm reaching out to you @Matt Kustom for a sweet chrome 916ThunderNeo), a route in the Foundation bridge position (Geddy Lee allllll day, son) for Matt's inline humcancelling Super Ferrite in the old Peavey shells.
• Shield the cavities
• Cut and install a custom vintage red tort pickguard (I was inspired greatly by @DarkStar90 and his John Wetton Tribute P-Bass Build)
• Install pickups, vol-blend-tone setup
• Install silver electronics/speed style knobs like the Wetton tribute P build

The thing is, that (maybe) maple Foundation S body came from Peavey out of dead stock that never got made into a bass.
It was just an abandoned body left for dead. All the parts needed to make it into a bass are random pieces I have here.
Most of the Peavey basses I've ever had were unaltered other than me changing a pickguard.
Badly damaged or broken or incomplete is another story, those got what they needed to become whole but sometimes got a few non Peavey parts.
Almost all the Peavey basses I've had/have/sold were beautiful unmolested basses.

Also…what year T-40 pickup is it, do you know?

I don't know what year it is but it is a toaster looking one, you don't see the blade in the toaster holes.
You should buy it or trade it with me so I can quit working on that grey primed Foundation body.
It may never get painted before we move to North Carolina and I don't have access to a free paint job anymore.

We have been saving our pennies to buy a house for the family and final settle after 2 years of moving…no projects for me anytime soon

Working on 1976 Bicentennial Bass pickups today. No one wanted to cough up one for dissection so im going off photos and coil readings from someone selling a 1976 for alot of cash so coil readings were included info for the sale. Trying to keep a price point people will deal with so no , not getting custom 3 hole covers stamped or the steel cradle laser cut and bent. So just what makes since for a basic build. Standard two hole cover options. I will order some black abs covers soon i found those for sale. These prototype coils are 4 con just incase the prototype tester needs to change something but i think these are fine
