Oh wow. Okay.
I really need an MFD-style split-coil pickup made. What are the inserts called that the screws go into? I want to see if I can find some soft iron ones.
The factory mfd pickups had custom order hardware. Nothing off the shelf. What we used in these are rivet nuts with grub screws in carbon steel.

Custom Bass with custom shells. Customer was not happy with the pickup in these wood shells. Sent them in for a custom set of 916 Super Ferrite recreations. This set required a 95mm blade for the 18mm string spaced 6 string.
U.S. steel stock cut and Nickel plated in house. Coils wound to 5.23k neck and 5.34k bridge.

With G&L closing its doors supposedly, maybe there is an opportunity to buy their stock of MFD hardware?
Already talked with Matt about that very thing last week!
It’s no longer a rumor. All employees were told they are no longer employed yesterday, and the plant is to be permanently closed.
It’s sad, for them, and me. I worked many years there with Leo 50 feet from me.
Drove him home on several occasions.
Ate lunch with him, Dale, Lloyd, and spoke with George occasionally.
Friends with Steve Araujo .
It absolutely heartbreaking for me.

I wonder if they'll sell the new MFD jazz bass pups aftermarket if they have any remaining stock?
I keep hearing about G&L MFD pickups which I didn't like in an SB-2.

It looks like he has made some in the same style, but the exact inserts and pole pieces seem to be completely custom for G&L and are not offered anywhere.
I just thought it would be cool if he could get his hands on some. The P-bass pickup in the SB-1 and SB-2 is probably my favourite or second favourite p-bass pickup going. I'd like to get a custom version of that made some day.
If the demand is there, and perhaps Matt can get his hands on the parts stock, he could make Replicas.

I did get the EB sized darkstar and temporarily stuck it in the lakland hollowbody pickup ring for the neck position. I also have a real Fred Hammon darkstar that I put in the bridge position (just taped it in for now while I think about if I want to install it permanently).
The 916 Darkstar sounds very good. I'd say it's about the same as the real deal one. I'm going to have to make a cover for it so that it will fit more securely, but it feels like a winner and sounds very good. Defined and not too boomy. Single coil type sound but relatively low noise.
