916 Pickups Club

Friend in Hong Kong is starting a tour in a few months , wanted a new Noise Free set for his new guitar. He loves his strat sized 916 S90s but wants hum canceling in all positions. His order was a Humbucker sized Filtertron set with our Hot wind option , 50mm/53mm in A4

@XsoGol , could you chime in on how the splits sound in comparison to standard SF in your opinion? Thank you Sir.
The split-coil inline humcancelling sound pretty damn close to the original. They have a tad more warmth and are slightly less bright but still have that SF feel to them. Check out the soundclips on the 916 site for both the inline hum cancelling and the SF precision pickup. Those are good comps to the original. Hope this helps!

DM if you would like a SF exposed blade P bass. We also have 4 sets of 10k ceramic exposed blade P bass. If you need a exposed blade J to go with the P it will be a few days after purchase to send out the set.

Anyone tried the EB replacement yet? I’ve seen the sound sample video on YouTube, and the recording quality of the video is fair at best.

I’m thinking about a replacement in my SG Bass and am most curious about these and the Novak EB-BS. The 916 definitely wins in the pricing comparison.

Do you have the equipment to record a demo to your standards? Always looking for players that can and will make quality demos.

I think we should send one to Babylon Sun for a demo. I'm also reaching out to Fuzzed Drones.

@TDR1138, what style of demo are you looking for and what type of music would you use one for? Thanks.

Unfortunately, I do not.

I do appreciate anyone taking the time to set up and record a sound sample, but there are way more videos out there that suffer from subpar audio based on the recording methods and equipment used. The sound sample of the 916 EB pickup, for example, seems to have a lot of ambient noise. The player mentions using an amp model on his Helix, but you can also hear him breathing as he’s playing, so I’m guessing the vocal mic wasn’t muted. But that makes me wonder how much click and finger noise that I’m hearing is the mic picking up the acoustic playing. There seems to be more to me than just the tone of the pickup going on.

I’m not meaning to be overly critical. As I said, I’m appreciative of anyone’s efforts and I’m not set up to do it myself, so I’m just being the couch critic at this point. But I would love to hear other’s feedback and opinions.

I’ll probably end up ordering one once my house expenses die down. Right now, a new roof is taking priority over anything else. 😁

@XsoGol see above for my thoughts about the sound sample.

As for music, I’m generally playing 60s-90s rock or playing at church. I love playing my SG, but the neck pickup is just a tad underwhelming, so I’m really looking for more “oomph” without going totally down the mudbucker route. I have a few G&Ls, so I like punchy pickups.

My perspective: The audio compression in most YouTube videos make sound quality suffer anyway, regardless of how well the original recording was done.

I much prefer a high-bitrate (or lossless) audio file, instead of a video. I don't need to watch the person play. I just want to listen to the sound.
