For my workouts I have three, connected, used as a jump rope. A good companion to my platinum dumbbells and unobtanium infused water.

A fool and his money.....that's all I'm saying. $1000 cord plugged in to the house's $12 power strip. Ok, even in a studio, I can't see it.

Trade in your American Standard P. ;)

You may need to add a couple hundred cash on top though....:D

Now that I think about it, $1000 for a friggin' cable is idiotic when you look at it like that!

An appliance cable is an appliance cable is an appliance cable.

For what it is worth, I use the cable I pulled off an AS400 (high-end Unix server) that I picked up from a buddy. It's not any more special than the usual cable I'd use except it is a lot longer than most appliance cables, and heavier, and therefore easier to pick out of the mess when the gig is done.

But, I would not spend any more than a few bucks to replace it. Working in IT, I have appliance cables falling out my ass. So I never need to hunt for long to get one.

So, they charge $2000 list for this toy: Link Removed

Much about the parts and pieces that go into Shunyata products can be seen in the descriptions of other cables on our Site. When it comes to the Anaconda Alpha Helix - rather than blandly listing the sum of its parts - we prefer to let the superior craftsmanship, ultra-flexible form and startling performance speak to its quality.

So, for those possessed (include me in that group!), I strongly urge you to consider the pricey but remarkable Anaconda Alpha Helix. Yes, $2000 is a lot of money, especially for a power cord, but the Anaconda Alpha Helix has clearly established a new benchmark in AC cable performance. It can be simply magical in the right system. The Shunyata Anaconda Alpha Helix is a remarkable amalgam, combining subtlety and resolution with power and weight.

Recommended Applications: Anaconda Alpha Helix’s patented 7 gauge conductor geometry allows it to form a perfect alliance with all amplifiers, pre-amplifiers and analog components as well as video projectors, power conditioners, powered speakers and subwoofers. Despite its massive gauge, the Alpha is incredibly flexible and lightweight.

Notice in the first paragraph they tell you "well, it's made of complicated stuff and we are too lazy to tell you right out what is so pricey about this. Just trust us."

In the third paragraph, they talk about how these mysterious components will "align" the power in your gear. I'm no electrical engineer but electricity only works in one way, and it's not going to behave differently once it is in your amplifier because of a power cable.

Snake oil. Insane that people pay this kind of money for a dressed-up piece of wire.

Having been on the receiving end of an invoice from IBM, I think your power cable may have originally cost more than the one in the thread. :)

You are probably correct. This is a late 1990's or early 2000's model. I haven't looked at it for awhile (the guy gave it to me so I could learn to build them, which I did, but not with this one). However, point being, I would not spend more than $10 to replace the power cable. It is not that special, just longer than most.

Well, your power cable being a lot nicer than the components in your amp on the back end, and the power system coming into it on the front end serves no purpose.

Think of it this way. You have a REALLY muddy path in the woods. It crosses a creek. Over the creek you build a gold-plated, covered bridge that has glass doors that open and close by motion sensor. It has marble tile on the floor and a car wash with filtered water. Leaving your new bridge, you go right back to the muddy path. When you get to the end of the path, you have gone through a muddy path, a fancy bridge, and another muddy path. What good did the fancy bridge do? (Answer: none) Now, assuming the power system and components in your amp are a "muddy path" is a bit of an exaggeration. But you get the point. If everything going in, and everything coming out of the fancy cable is "regular stuff", then having a fancy cable in the middle serves no purpose..... in my view.
