A $1,000 power cable?!

You guy's can laugh all you want. Unless you have been involved in the pursuit of "ideal' sound reproduction, and have continuously pulled your hair pursuing it while spending ungodly sums in your attempt to achieve it, then you will never understand the need or purpose!

And it would likely be a waste of money to spend more than $300 on a power cord for your bass amp!:bassist:

There is no need or purpose for a fancy power cable in any application. I've been involved in the design and manufacture of very high end home audio gear ($30k active loudspeaker system, $10k CDP/preamp, etc.) and have had the opportunity to audition a lot of power cables, many costing far more than $1000. Not a single one made any measurable or audibly perceptible difference. My former boss, who is a full-on hardcore audiophile totally buys into the idea that fancy power cables make a lot of difference to audio quality.

He swore he could hear "not subtle" differences between power cables, yet was unable to differentiate very real (but subtle) differences caused by out of spec resistors in a critical part of the amplifier circuit that I could reliably pick up on.

We're diametrically opposed on this subject but we still manage to get along. He's got a great set of ears and a great sense of what sounds good in an audio system, I just think he's off the mark with the fancy cable business.

Thanks for permission to laugh. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Over time, copper wire absorbs oxygen, so all copper wire (cords, wires in amps, voice coil wire in speakers, wire in pickups) should be replaced and old wire disgarded. Do not recycle it, as it will only contaminate new, oxygen free copper.

A high end cable should last a good 5 years, which is many times longer than a garden variety IEC cable will.

Forward all of your vintage Fender guitar and bass pickups to me. I'll give everyone a modern-issue Fender pickup in exchange. I'll also take any oxygen damaged Gibson humbuckers dating from the mid 50's through the mid 60's and trade those out for newer low oxygen replacement pickups.

You are being facetious, aren't you? :D

This is the first time for me to post in this thread.

A $1000 power cable??? I would NEVER use such a thing! I wouldn't trust such a cheapie piece of junk. The plugs at the ends would probably fall off on the first gig. I will only use power cables that cost at least $10,000 per foot. That way I know I'm getting a quality cable and good bass tone. Plus, I'm less likely to hit wrong notes.

They sound so good that the wrong notes sound better than the right notes. Best when playing tuned to 432hz.
