Ive been on the receiving end of insults and on the base end of the insult.

It happens and you just have to live with it, no band or musician is out there without "haters". There is always going to be a *******, and the experience you had was just an example. I have seen worse, I have seen people beat each others bands up over little things before.

I think it would be wise to ignore people like that, it may be hard to do (incredibly hard for me) but pissing on the other band's van is no better.

However, the singer in that band sounds like a douche, but he is a singer, what do you expect?

If it was a teen center then it was in poor taste for the next band to make that crack.

There's another local band that said things about us- that our drummer couldn't keep time and our singer couldn't sing or play guitar. Doesn't bother us a bit. I feel no need to get back, and I think they're a pretty good band. But it just happens that more people were dancing to us when we performed in the same show... hmm. I guess the drummer can keep time...

Besides what qualifies you guys to be the deliverer of messages. I tend not to take people who are serious about delivering whatever message it is on their agenda very seriously.

This sorta thing happened (on a much smaller scale) at my first gig. i work for a productions company who specialize in putting on gigs. my band played first, and for a laugh, we decided to throw in a cheesy pop cover into our punk/metal set. everyone seemed to enjoy it, until the next band came onstage, i went back to work behind the sound desk, getting the right sounds and levels and so on. So the band get 2 or 3 songs into their set and said "we're gonna cover busted because we're wankers". To which i picked up a talkback microphone from the sound desk and said "just before you do, ask yourself who's bass amp you're using, and then ask yourself who's PA rig you're playing through. then shut up."

+1 to thicker skins. As long as you have some fun & get some money at the end of the night, it shouldn't matter what anyone says. The most important comment would be from the venue owner saying "Yeah, you guys aren't going to play here anymore".

my band often gets booked with this other band and their lead singer is constantly taking stabs at us behind our backs. however our band constantly out draws his band and than blows them off the stage with performance/crowd reactions. so they play after us to a dead crowd and thats just enough justice for me.

What qualifies anybody to be a deliverer of messages? A degree in Psychology? Psychiatry? If you were a teenager, who would YOU listen to?

This one is easy.Don't use you gigs to"spread the message" of whatever cause you champion. There are other arenas for that.You're at a gig to entertain,nothing more.So just leave it at that.People don't pay cover charges and buy drinks to hear messages about suicide and depression.

First off, the show was at a TEEN center, a perfectly appropriate place to give this messege and a place I doubt people were buying alot of beers.

Second, alot of people care about these sort of things and alot of these people DO go to concerts, especially teenager. For all we know this was not the typical "booty shakin beer drinkin" crowd and his band may not be that type of band either. I cannot see how it is acceptable to try and stifle important issues in music, one of the largest medians to people that exists.

I still cant believe people get so personally offended when someone acts like an idiot. Can't anyone in this country act like an ass anymore? It's sad really. Why does one person have a right to say their message at a gig, and the next person say what they want at the gig, but only one of the two pisses on a car and seriously gets upset. Man, I don't get it. It's not against the law to be a jerk. The OP is very lucky someone didn't see them pissing on their vehicle, because that is a GREAT way to get your butt kicked. The are words people, just words. He didn't punch you, or kick your gear, or tear your sign down, or steal your money, he made one poor-taste comment - he'll get what's coming to him, you don't need to act even worse. Personally, I think you are the one who should be embarassed, not the person with the bad joke. Move on...

Since when is being in a band about getting all serious? I thought that if you were in a band you could act childish and get away with it. Part of the fun of making music. Dude I agree with the whole ******* thing but come on...if it was somethin less serious than then that would be fine. And bro it's just piss on a car. Birds **** on cars all the time and we don't go around kicking their asses. They said something uncool and then they got their van pissed on. Big whoop.
