A bass you would never consider playing

I'd happily play any bass as long as it says Hofner, Fender, Rickenbacker, Guild or Gibson on the headstock. Most of the basses that I see that say something else seem pretty unappealing. Some of them appear to have extraneous strings on them, which I find highly suspect and it makes me anxious. Oh yeah, ones that say Framus, Kay and Harmony can be good, too.

Some of those Status basses are to die for, great for cramped stage gigs too where you`re pinned against the left wall with the headstock tearing the wallpaper !
Being a Mark King fan I`ve been desensitised to headless basses Now to me strappin` on a headless is like wearing an AK47 ( or M16 depending on which side of the fence you are... )

Heh... finally saw one in person at a GC... live, it looks truly unique. Not a bad player (or tone) either. Not my thing, but as a bass, a good value at $200. The pointy headstock bothers me more than the color (just seems out of place with the curves on the rest of the bass).

Didn't think about that one, but it sounds about right. I think the only bass I wouldn't at least consider buying would also be any kind of warlock - unless I suddenly joined a black metal band. Seeing as, although i dig some of the music, I don't gel with the crowd, I don't think it's happening.

I probably wouldn't buy a warlock as it's just not my style, but I'd play one and have played one.

If I just want to sit around and idly play a few riffs, almost any bass will do.

As for actually buying though, there are tons of basses I wouldn't even consider.

I would never consider a bass that has any sharp points on its headstock. I just hate the look. That eliminates a lot. Some people don't like EBMM Bongos because of the resemblance to a certain porcelain product, I just don't like the headstock. ESP, Kramer, BC Rich, a lot of really nice sounding basses just won't be mine because of it.

I am the same way... Anything else I would play... Now whether or not I would play it twice is another story..

Interesting thread hearing about the different makes/models/styles mentioned here. There's the love and hate groups which is normal. But then there are a small amount of "eh, I'd play if it was handed to me" folks. Like I said, the stakes change drastically if I have to pay for the instrument; having one handed to me is a completely different situation. Sadly no one hands me their bass to play...and probably for good reason...lol!

I haven't decided on headless basses. However, my guitarist buddies HATE them with a passion, and so as not to rock the boat I'd probably skip that type for now. I also don't like the 'pointy' varieties as well. Otherwise I'm open to most anything!

I'm sure I'm the only one here with this opinion, and I'm going to insult a few of you unintentionally, but Rickenbackers. I really just don't like the style/look, and they don't have the tone I generally go for. Also any Ibanez. I had a 5 string years ago, and it had no soul. Just sounded flat and uninteresting, as does any Ibanez I try, it seems.
