A bass you would never consider playing

I have a piece of crap SG looking bass that was put together from parts. It sounds ok but is very very uncomfortable to play, and after trying to play it again the other day I have no desire to again anytime soon. A friend painted it for me and did a terrible job so it's not even worth selling.

So, what bass would you never consider playing? And let's keep it civil.

It depends (again).
I am pretty open. Any bass I try, if it neck dives even before I play a note, it goes up at the wall hanger again. If it doesn't I'll play some notes. If it has a dead spot below the 12th first frets it goes up the wall again. I can play headless and headed, it doesn't matter. Pointy and sharp headstock and body horns is a stretch too. I am into ergonomics. Sleek and slim designs works for me.

But one bass I would never considering playing no matter how good it is set up or sounding, is the Ric. I can listen to a Rickenbacker all day and hear someone else coax marvellous sounds and playing out of it, but when strapped on me, everything feels and hangs just soooooo wrong. It's not even wrong...everything is in the way, and interrupting. Just feels cumbersome and unwieldy. Albeit it got the looks of the coolest basses ever. And yet Entwhistle, Squire, Geddy Lee et al are my top favorites (not Lemmy though). Warwick is another brand, that looks cool, and definitely sounds cool, but as they all mostly neck dives big time, they're a no-no for me. Big no no. But one of these days, they might come to their senses and build something viable.

I've tried a Thunderbird before. Gibson and epiphone. I like the feel of it and the way the body is shaped so you can rest your right arm on it as you play.

I would play a Gibson or Epiphone, but I wouldn't buy one. The same goes for Music Man.

Same here. They feel nice and play nice but I wouldn't get one either.

I'm not necessarily religious, nor do I play in a church, but I find all that crap kinda classless and childish and wouldn't play anything like that, either.

I'm more of a"classic shape" guy myself... The gimicky basses funny really fit my style anyways

I'll pick up and play whatever, but there are some basses I just don't click with...and I lay that on myself as being a personal preference. Like the sound of the Sterling 4, can't get used to the bridge-only pickup design, just not comfortable for me.

Not really. I was looking at a bunch of different basses and felt some just didn't do it for me. Quite a few posts mention tone for instance. I couldn't understand how anyone would find some of them appealing. During my research I found that every single bass out there get at least some love on Talk Bass. Got me thinking...

I guess I wouldn't play anything that's not a five-string... I'm just too used to it and I use the B string quite extensively.

This is a wonderful thing because there are sooooo many cool and older basses that don't come in fivers. I don't know how you guys handle the GAS.

Ironic cause at this point I would never own a 5 string. I want to sell the 5er I have.

I try basses, if they speak to me, they stay around. If they don't, they get passed on.
I've never said never to anything on looks alone.
